SNAP SHOT 194
the pump is not a good game gun as if you miss with the first then you have to cock the weapon again, leading to a rather hard secons shot... it would be ok as a general use vermin gun, but not really for game in my opinion.... A good bet is an over and under, or semi auto, but if your going on regular shoots they don't like to see S/A guns... so that narrow's it down to s/s or o/u........ Snap. Quote Link to post
the Verminator 0
Has anybody used one and if so what did you make of it, also are there better alternatives about. y do you want a pump action, they make your life harder and you have to remember to pump it to load the next shell, leaving you less concentrated on shooting. if you want more shots than an over and under or a side by side get a semi auto, you can have them moderated. From what i heard the moderator messes up how the semi works, so they wont cycle properly, hense they dont do a semi version of the hushpower. I know they now do a o/u moderated, but up until that came out recently they only did the single barrel hushpower or the mossberg pump action. I went for the pump as the appeal of 3 shots was quite appealing. I also went for the 410. I find it very good. Its a very light gun with no recoil, and after trying different cartridges, i settled for the subsonic 3inch magnum cartridges. Using those, the gun sounds as loud as an unsilenced air rifle. Initially how quiet the thing is a bit off putting for a shot gun. Its like a sneeze or cough. I dont find the pump a problem. Certainly its much quicker to pump than try and load another cartridge in a single barrelled hushpower. Because im used to using a semi, i have forgot to pump a couple of times which was embaressing when shooting clays. But, out in the field with it im fine. The only problem with the 410 version is that the pattern is very tight so you have to be very accurate. Also, in general with the huge hushpower silencer, its quite difficult to get the aim right in the dark until you get used to it. Besides all that, its also a very long gun. My 410 version is 32inches long.!!! All in all, for the cash, i was impressed. Although it depends on what you want it for. If its pest control, id go for a decent air rifle instead. If its game or pigeon shooting, id go for a o/u or semi. Edited March 31, 2009 by jackinbox99 Quote Link to post

byrney 2
Thanks, some good advice there. Should of mentioned its the 12 guage i was looking at as i have recently bought the 410 version, which i am impressed with. Really i am looking for a multi shot with the same level of noise control as noise is an issue on my permission, also my main job is decoying pigeon and crow which i am finding bloody difficult with the 410. Any advice is welcome. Quote Link to post

Id be very tempted with the 12 bore version of the mossberg hushpower, esp as it comes with both the moderated barrel and a normal barrel "free" - so you have extra flexibility. Might be worth having a word with hushpower and see what they say about semi autos. If they can moderate one of those, maybe something like an hatsan escort semi could be the answer? Ill have a look into that mate. Although at £500 quid the mossberg seems like the right price as well, Quote Link to post

yeeharr 41
I've got a 20 bore Mossberg Hushpower. It's loads quieter than the 12 gauge and hits just as hard. I shoot 32 gram subsonic 5's out of it. I use mine mainly for bunnies, it doesn't make them bolt as much as a rimmie or air rifle when their companions get hit. I believe this is down to the fact that there is no impact noise from the rabbit you have just shot. On stationary targets I shoot mine out to 35 yards. It is long, but once you get used to it you can swing on rabbits and hit them on the run. A couple of trips to the clay range will get you used to it. Quote Link to post
