Preparation for a nights lamping

Just wondered if any of you did anything in particular to prepare your dog for a night on the lamp.

We feed as normal in the morning and the dog gets a raw beaten egg at around 5 o clock, and fed again when we get in from our night out.

Be good to know your thoughts

If I'm going out (like tonight) I usually give the dogs some meat, brown bread and gravy for breakfast at about 9/10 o'clock.

Take them out as normal in the afters for an hour or two then give them half of their food at about 5 o'clock then go out at any time from 8.30pm onwards and feed the other half when we get back.

Cheers, D.

You cant expect a lurcher to run for 3-4 hours on an empty stomach, this would help burn the dog out, muscle cramps etc, most tips on here seem sensible, feed early in the day a medium feed, then light walk to empty, couple of hours before you go a small portion, ie; handful of feed or couple of eggs with suggary milk, when lamping always take some electrylte fluid for a drink halfway through. A mini mars bar can help.

We all use what suits but it is good to see what others do.

So you all give your dogs breakfast! So how do you hunt through the day? My dogs get a full meal at night ie, 2 chopped lambs heart each, and a pack of tripe, beef etc heated up for easy digestion, this also put all the fats back into them they have ran off through out the day. And is enough to help them through there next days hunting. If they are going lamping, they dont go out in the day but they dont get fed till returning home...

Giving your dog a breakfast doesnt affect them when you work them in the day if anything it helps them work better and longer

I have feed my dog twice in a day then went out.. 7am and 2pm out lamping at 11pm.

When running my bitch hard i could run a fair bit of weight of it in a night. Dry food was not that good had to feed tripe and chicken mince with the cibble.
