pointer 543
id go along with what you say except that through my own experiences i think terriers will find fox to ground out bushing and its often in dangerous spots so whilst ive enjoyed countless hours out bushing with terriers id keep a type of dog that dosent go to ground.terriers are the best dogs for bushing but my gwp will put out whatever is in cover.it may take him longer and he does it differentely but it will be pushed out quickly enough.there may be cover he cant work through but i dont hunt over such places. so i have a six year terrier which cannot be bushed at this time of year because theres a very good chance he would find a fox to ground.i love it when bushing lads say all you need to do is know your area because we all should know that a fox can dig out a rabbit hole or pop down a dodgy drain etc one night. i also own a six year old lurcher which will work cover and a younger lurcher.so thats four dogs. i take them bushing/cover hunting for about an hour most nights(the terrier on a lead) and go ratting for an hour at least twice a week.i then work them most of the weekend though not all together.it all depends on what im doing. I OWN TOO MANY DOGS.i dont need a terrier as my lurchers and gwp can handle any ratting i do.i could say that i need two lurchers as one is getting on a bit and i need two incase one gets injured but thats only true to an extent.i could just watch someone elses dogs if i had a lurcher banged up which isnt very often.the gwp is worked but wont be seriously grafted i just enjoy having him about. i keep four dogs but i probably dont need four dogs.i just like having a few dogs about the place.luckily for much of the time they can be walked out together so lead active lives. bigdan 11
my terrier s dont go to ground i do believe a dog for a job i think as long as there looked after walked/worked regular fed warm and it dosent become to hard its good when i was younge i just wanted more and more qauntity or than qaulity but we live and learn when i only had 1or2 dogs its easy not a problem but i once had 14 all worked looked after but hard work but bushing you need more than one even lamping its good to have 2 at least depends on terrain and game i suppose but it gets addictive and before you know it your over dogged lesson well learnt but i know people with 10plus dogs in there garden looked after like you would'nt believe it takes some doing has anyone else made the same mistake

arcticgun 4,548
We have 4, 2 pets belong to my wife, and two lurchers which are mine , both last years pups, 5 & 7 months old, ones a Beddy x Grey first cross, and the other is a Saluki x, I walk all 4 out twice a day, and they also spend a lot of time in the garden rutting about, all live in at present, but once the run is finished the two pups will live out, that said my missus really loves having them about the house, sure they are work but worth every minute of it. Our kids love them especially my two year old daughter. I cannot wait for next season to see all the graft, training, exercising etc, pay off (hopefully), they are both showing a lot of promise Edited February 4, 2009 by arcticgun
