22-250 or 204?

Recommended Posts

Mate uses 22.250 and 22.4000 wilcats for foxes and has taken lots.

Mind he builds his own custom varmint rifles in these calibres and loads his own.

Seen him take crows out to 300yds with the 22.250 and I know he has taken foxes well beyond this!

If your after a purpose built rifle and want his number let me know!

He is also building a .20 cal varmint for a customer at present looks a nice bit of kit!

is it a 20 tac he is building mate ?

Not sure of full details but will try to find out more!

Get with the programme! :) 204 Ruger has been a factory round for the last 4 years...

program :- series of instructions

programme:- planned series of events. list of items or performers in an entertainment !

See you still have the attitude problem !

Its an open forum and i asked why you were dismissive of non common rounds before xmas you went on how you knew some one who won 1000yd comps with his .243 and that was all you needed .

Quote :- And you could not see the reason to fart about with wildcat stuff

I only asked why ? :notworthy:

Until recently I had a .204, .223 and a 22.250 for my fox/vermin work (I have had the .204 for a couple of years now). I found that I was using the .204 virtually all the time, the .223 had not been out of the cabinet for over a year so it's gone to be replaced by something else.

However I digress. I have really fallen for the 204, it's inherently accurate and when using 40gr is more than up to the job of dropping Mr Fox at ranges up to 300+ yds. We have some big fields and valleys here and longish shots are a must and the .204 is more than capable. As a crow round it's fantastic, like a HMR on steroids.

If I could only have one caliber it would be a .204, flat as a pancake, no recoil and hard hitting. What more could one ask for.

Thanks Charlie.

Coldweld - this is the sort of post I am after, constructive, useful information. You want to argue that I said the 243 would do everything in the world, yeah whatever. It remains a capable calibre for target and long range fox and is my choice for this role still. I merely used the then-recent chap who won a 1000 yard comp to illustrate that 243 can do the job. You may or may not have noticed I'm changing calibre for a different reason.

I'm not arguing grammar, I really can't be arsed.

As for wildcats, I couldn't be arsed with them then, and I still can't. They don't fit the bill for me, they're expensive as factory rifles aren't available and scarcity of other components (brass, round our way anyway) doesn't help either.

BUT that's because I don't have a need, not because others might not. You seem to continually miss that this is MY opinion, I am not forcing it on anyone else. PLEASE remember that, and if you have to post, please be constructive.
