.20 Calibre varmint rifle!

Recommended Posts

Called to see a gunmaker friend today who is building a .20 calibre varmint rifle for a customer.

Its still a bit 'in the white' but looks the dogs!

Custom laminated stock, heavy 'floating' polished molybdium barrel.

Had a hold and its a beaut, bloody heavy but bet it will shoot sweet!

Hes into heavy barrel rifles shoots 22.250 and 22.4000 himself with great effect.

I recon one of them must weigh around 18lb all up with one round in it!

Not one to carry but superb rifles.

Anyone else know of any .20 calibre centre fire rifles being used in UK?

IF you are talking .20, then as far as I am aware the calibre is all but dead and I seem to recall it was a pistol round anyway!

If that is the case you are likely to have a big problem with either factory rounds or reloading!

Perhaps someone knows more than me or I have it wrong...but just WHY does this customer want a .20...and one that weighs a ton??????

.204 Ruger is gaining popularity as a .20 calibre varmint round, a colleague of mine uses one on prairie dogs in the USA, says its awsome.

there are a couple of people on the bbs that have the 20tac rifles that has been built by a guy called dasherman. one lad called craigboy on there from ni i think it is has one and he posted some pictures of the groups he is getting at 200 and 300 yards ! and there super groups.

worth going for one if you want something different with low recoil and accuracy. i would think you could see the hit to with the low recoil.

hi mate if anything the barrel in the 20tac and 204 should last pretty long if looked after. yes the fps is very high but you can get this speed with half the powder of a 22/250 so really the blast will be less harmfull on the throat then say a 22/250 round would be.

Tactical 20

The Tactical 20 was invented by Todd Kindler long before the .204 Ruger hit the market. Based on the .223 Remington parent case, the Tactical 20 is simply the .223 necked down to 20 Caliber with a 30-degree shoulder. Some versions have slightly less body taper as well--it's wise to compare reamer prints. Although the Tactical 20 has about three grains less case capacity than the .204 Ruger, it delivers very similar performance. With the right load, you can get Max velocities with 32- and 40-grainers that give up little or nothing to the .204 Ruger. Varmints probably won't know the difference. The Tactical 20 is easy to load and exceptionally accurate.

**** me....even old boys still get to learn, .204 is the only one I had heard of, where the **** do you get any of this ammo from...and dare I say...why would you want to??? :hmm::thumbs:

proberbly most would reload using .222 or .223 casesthrough dies or fireforming why sounds like a good flat shooting round and its quickand accurate
