Tyla 3,179
Not posted any trips for a while as had no camera but a mate came with me this weekend and took some pics on his phone. We started out about 7.45 to try an area of woodland i've not been on so far this season as all my usual spots seem to be suffering a lack of bunnies. i lamped the field the night before and saw a few rabbits using the area not lots but more than elsewhere. Set up on a 40 hole bury which had about ten really active holes and entered all three jills. After a bit of bumping two rabbits bolted into the nets in quick succession . it all went quiet after that and then to jills kept popping up and stopped showing interest in working. i found it hard to believe there were no more rabbits in there but boxed them up anyway and went on to the next one. We did two close together on a bank next, the first produced one and we lost one out of the second due to a missed bolt hole We left another promising bury for another day and had a scout a bit further into the wood. Found what we thought was a little one but ended up being another 30 - 40 holer. These rabbits didnt want to bolt but, unusually for here, it was quite shallow so after a couple of digs of about two foot and one bolt we bagged another three. On the way back we did two more small burys but nothing at home. A good day but im still at a loss to know where all the rabbits have gone. These areas used to infested with them but over the last eight or so years the numbers have just dwindled. Been a bit of mixy but no more then else where. Maybe time to start looking for a new bit of permission Had a great time anyway and my mate has been bitten by the ferreting bug, already been asking when we can come again Also saw a very odd oak tree with a very bulbous base, any ideas what would cause this? will98 0
the bulbose problem is to do with the tree preparing it self for failure when under stress e.g to much weight on one side rotten out disease Quote Link to post
petehu7 0
Here in East Yorkshire the ground hasn’t dried out all year I’m sure this is one reason there’s not as many Rabbits as other years. The heavy ground makes them easy pray Quote Link to post
