MR TEA POT 1,287
Went up to my new permission on saturday, there was a thick fog and it was cold. Took my dad up who fancied a morning out and my new lurcher pup who was just along to watch. Arrived at the fields,i had a walk down the hedge to look at the warrens and they was looking used.So back to get the gear and have a cup of tea.Netted up the first warren and put the ferrets in,a rabbit bolted within seconds in to a purse net.The ferrets went through the warren and showed,so we moved on to the next one,as we was netting up a rabbit got up out the rape and ran to a little set where we was having a cup of tea,it did not look all that well used. As we had the short long net things out i thought i would put the ferret in and the rabbit would bolt along the hedge and into the net. That was the plan it sounded good in my head. What actually happend was the rabbit bolted straight across the grass field for about 100yds before dropping in to a set, while my lurcher pup was doing somersults on his lead, which was tied to a stick as he was only watching, to get at the rabbit . Anyway netted up the warren and put the long nets out, ferrets in and waited,a rabbit bolted on my dads side into a purse net and wrapped it self round the barbwire fence, there was quite a bit of swearing and cursing from my dad ,while i was watching him and laughing a rabbit shot out on my side and in to my long net.The ferrets did not show so we waited about ten mins.i got the locator out to see where they were,i just looked down a hole and could see a rabbits back side, thrust my arm down and pulled the rabbit out with the 2 ferrets attached. Was going to do some more warrens but some of the holes where on another farmers land,so i told the farmer and he is going to have a word with him. A few pics of the day, sorry about the quality. This was the hedge we did. Me dad waiting for a bolt.Looking like scott of the artic . Which came soon. A few of the wareens as you can see there was quite a lot of droppings. The top of this hill is another grass field and at the side there is a wood where the rabbits are coming out on to the grass fields. You can't see it because of the fog. This hedge here had rabbit runs coming through it,time to get the snares out i think. Behind the hedge is another rape field and beyond that is another grass field but it has got a badger set in it.There is a few rabbit warrens there,i will shoot them with the airifle in the near future. Here is a run coming out the hedge on to the rape field it the best shot i could get with the camera. A pic of a beat showing the rabbits paw prints just in front of the lighter. A few of the rape fields where the pigeons are attacking. And the end of day shot. Went to see my other farmer and he gave me 2 phesants. Not a bad day all in all. Sorry about the long post i got carried away . Edited December 1, 2008 by MR TEA POT Quote Link to post

MR TEA POT 1,287
nice one mr t hows the lurcher by the way mate I am glad you asked that,i have a reason for putting up another pic of him. He as settled in well and i am bonding with him,i have got him jumping better,he was jumping a bit before but was scrabbling over some fences not jumping them.He has chased 1 rabbit which he did not see till it was about 100yds away, but he has got some bloody speed . I am breaking him to stock as well he is fine with cows, but a bit dubious around sheep,so a bit more training and he will be fine. Thanks for the replies folks. Quote Link to post
