Nice dogs manipulus. They look like' real' healthy dogs that have the physical ability to do a days work. Not like the UK Kennel Club types with little stunnted legs who look like freaks, hardly able to carry their bellies above the floor. I like the look of the fawn/ginger one. Please keep the posts coming.

I think that everyone is in agreement with you there. The KC ones ive seen look nothing like the ones that are worked.

How hard is it to import a couple of dachshunds and how much would you be looking at for a decently bred one? I dont understand why in this country we have show strains and working strains. If it is a working breed then before it can be bred from it should have to prove itself in its suitability and ability to work and the KC should not judge on the 'potential' to do the job, it should have already done the job. That way you would eventually get one strain that both works and shows which is the way it should be, the KC shows can often judge the wrong end of the lead and if you are an unknown face then you may aswell sit it out no matter what the quality of your dog. Then the facey people get well known as having 'quality' stock that then gets bred from and people buy pups thinking they are getting the real deal when really they are just buying into the cycle of poor quality registered dogs that we have in this country. Makes me mad..... :big_boss:

Unfortunately on the American and English dachshunds onto a glance shows, that not onto work they are choosing. The Germans it was realized soon since they hunt with the dachshund that the low land is not beneficial in the interest of the health of the dog distance. The dachshund hunts in winter primarily, because of this important, that let his stomach not be a neighbourhood to the land. The too long one is a spine apart from it. We reduce the its length now because of this and we raise the dachshund. It would be necessary to choose at you not only the one with a good nervous system and to work dogs but onto the limbs put onto the tall one.

I would like to go in 2010 the Crufts show but I am afraid that my dog is not acceptable there.

Your dog would be acceptable there. he is very sound and has breed type. I have judged the breed here in UK and he would be acceptable.

Before any on has anything silly to say this is different country with a different culture

May be a different country with a different culture but it is still holding a fox by its brush and poking it with a stick in front of some dogs  , take the link off its pathetic

What is the problem with this? The stick is not because of that, that prod the fox, but, that let him not bite the man.

Ignore them manipulus, this is a multicultural hunting site and your thread is welcome here. We are talking working dogs and there is nothing wrong with your link.

well said.

This is an interesting thread, what amuses me is all the people who state they would like one in the UK, there are already working dachshunds in the UK most are used for tracking wounded deer by stalkers, i also know of ones used underground by a hunt terrierman, used for rough shooting, used by a falconer and lots used in small packs for rabbits and foxes!

Its just that the working ones in the UK are called Teckels as the germans call them and the vast majority of working uk Teckels are imported from Germany and are registered with the uk teckel society which keeps a list of the working ones in the country enabling you to find a working stud for your teckel bitch!

They are relatively expensive compared to working terriers and that may be why they aren't so wide spread!

Any one interested in buying a teckel (working dachshund) should contact the uk teckel society and ask for details of any litters

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/sunsong/UK%20Teckel/ukteckel.htm

And because they are imported they are of the type seen in the pictures from Manipulus, and have a very strong prey drive.

I refer to them as Teckels as that is the original continental name, dachshund was a miss-translation in victorian times

The sandy coloured dog of Manipulus looks like one i saw this year in the french alps, they are used a lot there, i chatted with the owner in my broken french, he had retirted his two teckels as he and they were too old.....well i think thats what he said, he had hunted deer, boar, fox and badger.....also chatted with a bloke in switzerland with one who said "small hunde, but hunt BIG things" he was totally dedicated to teckels and talked of hunting deer and boar
