Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
The is a lot of theives around at the minute & some areas are worse than others. IF you can please register with ww.doglost.co.uk I cant guarentee to get dogs back but I can guarentee to try & help. It's a free service, you dont get charged but we dog have volunteers, police, dogwardens, traveller liason officers all on board. We are finding dogs- if they aren't registered with us we cant match them up to get them back. We also use Countrymans Weekly to put ads in. I hate dogs theives, but you try telling someone 'nicely' that tying the dog up outside shop or leaving dog in the car while they go round Asda for weekly shop isnt wise due to dogs been stolen in the area & you get load of abuse or the 'my dog wont go with anyone except me' comment. I used to leave my dogs in the car, take them to the shop with me til I got involved with Doglost, no more. We've had people had there dogs nicked from car parks, outside shops, back gardens- the lowlifes arnt bothered but the more of us that chip/tattoo/ tag our dogs the better. We've got over 5000 dogs back in 5 years. I know the new site isn't as user friendly as the old one- we're working on getting the old format back but do register your missing dogs. Please do register- we will try help. Quote Link to post

Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
Not all travellers are bad, same as not all druggies will nick a dog for reward money. Unfortunately the one's that are bad tend to make it worse for all the others. A lot of working & toy dogs turn up on traveller sites- they do steal dogs & until they go thru the vets or are snatched back it's hard. Thankfully we do have people in the know on our side, we also have police that will seize dogs back. You cant tar everyone with same brush, but I'd love to get all the dogs they have & scan them, cos I know that a fair few will be chipped or tattoo'd. Also aware that dogs that go missing one day are often for sale the next day in opposite end of the country where owners wouldnt think to look for them. Dogs missing from round here go up North East & dogs nicked in North East get moved Manchester/Wales. I'm cross posting your 'missing' dogs onto Doglost but until they are registered by owners I cant get emails sent out to helpers. Quote Link to post
Back Stabbath 1
Its true that some Travellers wouldn't steal a dog. Not all of them are too bad, I went to school with some and they were alright, but still I wouldn't call them good, especially not to their animals. It depends what area they are from also. The families that are "concentrated", tend to be worse than those travellers from families that have some settled people in their lineage. (lol, I sound like I'm talking about breeding dogs! haha) My 2nd cousin is a quarter knacker, she dosn't know it though, she's about 7. Her dad was half knacker, apparantly he's a git. But anyway, good luck finding your dogs mate! Edited November 23, 2008 by Back Stabbath Quote Link to post
