the air arms s410 classic is it better in 22 or 177

.177 all the way get a flerter (catapult) if you want a .22 mate .177 hw100t gives 110 shot per fill, .22 hw100t 125 shots, .22 s410 around 60 shots per fill, .177 s410 maybe 40 shots.

.177 shoot alot further and flatter than a .22 and you can only shoot .177 at gun clubs, ft shooting as well .177 around 800 feet per second, .22 around 500 to 600 feet a second.

hope this helps

Hmmmm . . . . . I definately get a lot more than 40 shots from one fill with the S310 in .177 cal.? Once the cylinder is filled (to 180 bar) and ready to go, i fire off 70 shots before i need to fill again - although i HAVE been as far as 90 shots before , I personally prefer to re-fill 180 Bar after 70 shots. :hmm:

Hope that helps some?

70 shots i was told 40-50 from two gunsmiths then the power drops off do you mean s410

Hi RamCam,

I was talking about the S310 (the forerunner to today's S410) in regards of the amount of shots i am able to get between re-fills mate.

I cannot see that Air Arms would have changed the S410 that much from the S310 - in respect of the internals (valving i mean) really? I know that the S410 has a new barrel clamp (the S310 clamp is better IMHO), and it has an on board pressure guage (which you shouldn't trust because it is meant purely as a rough estimate of what is in the cylinder only) - whereas the S310 doesn't have this, and it also has three sears in the trigger assembly (as opposed to 2 in the S310). I would hope they (Air Arms ) have left the valving alone, but cannot comment on that because i have not, as yet, seen the internals of an S410 yet?

I was merely saying what i find is the case with my S310, as a guide to what should be the same findings with the S410 (assuming they have left the valiving alone, that is).

Cheers,

Grim.

This debate will go on forever and there is no answer anyway as the original question makes no mention of usage!

If you want target work there is no debate, .177 every time!

Conventional wisdom is that for hunting you use .22, there are still loads of arguments around this, and there always will be!

The .177 hunters will argue their case vehemently as will the .22 hunters!

Simple fact is the majority still use .22 for hunting...but that doesn't necessarily make it right...after all the "majority" voted in this Government as well!!:whistling::hmm::bye:

If you want the best of both worlds go for .177 heavy pellets more knock down, lighter pellets flatter shooting.

Personally I stick to .22 for hunting. For the simple reason that .22 will do 'considerably' more damage than a .177. So even if you miss the killzone by a bit (I sometimes do) , you still get a humane one shot kill. But if you're a really good shot, calibre wont matter to you.

Also, I've seen that .177 tends to over penetrate at times (FAC) and sometimes even pass clean through. If this shot is a miss then the quarry will suffer a lot. Not that this doesn't happen with .22. But its lesser at distances of 25 yards or above.

But this is a discussion that will last as long as people shoot with guns! whatever calibre you use, if you're a good shot, then that's all that matters.

I know guys who hunt with both .177 and .22. And they're both happy! Flat shooting or not! lol..
