Axholme Ferreter 0
Im doing fine with my CZ Style .22lr fitted with a Hawke Varmint 4 - 12 x 44 scope. The thing is I have got a slot for a .17hmr on my ticket burning a hole in my pocket. I am impressed with CZ so it will probably be a rifle from their range but what power scope should I be looking at? Will be using it mostly for longer range rabbits. All the best AF Quote Link to post

hairybull 3
Thats a fairly decent scope on your .22, I wouldnt think you'd need to go bigger. Maybe an 8x or a 3-12 variable like you have if you like the higher magnification. I run a 3-12 on my 25-06 and its plenty big enough for those long shots, anything bigger on such a small rifle would be overkill. I have 6x on my .22 and .22 Magnum. Quote Link to post
lgray88 4
ive got a simmons whitetail classic on my hmr its 6.5-20 mag , i usually have it at 14 or 15 for every day shots but i tend to set it right up for the long shots 200+ yards , you can pick up a simmons whitetail classic for a £110 of fleabay it seems a good scope for the money Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
I don't think you need more than 10 power, HMR isn't a long range tool. I'd get something with mildot or similar ret though, the longer shots are handy. That said, at night you don't need it, most shots are flat for HMR anyway. I have a 3-9x40 Bushnell on mine, works well Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
i have the mtc viper 4x16x50 but never go over 8 mag. i perfer it lower as on high mag you narrow the field of view and you can see just how shakey you are ! which is off putting Quote Link to post

All the best AF I have EXACTLY the same scope on my .22LR Silhouette and it is perfectly adequate, my CZ Silhouette HMR has a 4-16 but I almost alway use 6x, with a maximum of 8 x for hunting, the only reason I like a bit more is to scan around and have a close look.....don't remember the last time I EVER shot above 12 times..not even at 600Yards at Bisley!! Deker 3,491
Ive got an AGS swat 4-16x56. Its not the best scope as on high mag its a bit hazy, but its more than enough for the hmr, and good value. The mtc viper is said to be a better quality scope though... I have EXACTLY the same AGS on my Falcon (26ft lb)..hardly quality of manufacture but I like it, and the light transmission and Mil Dot is good (IMHO)..the 30 mm tube helps as well!! For an HMR I don't think anything more than this is required; I next to never use more than 6x and the AGS is very good at this mag....!! Quote Link to post
