Ferreting

Recommended Posts

I am new to ferreting can anyone give me a little advise

I have just been given an Albino Jill that has not been worked in the past.

Can i train the Jill for hunting rabbits?

The Jill is very tame and has been only a pet in the past.

shouldn't need to train her mate, if you can get her into a warren she should know what to do, you might want to think about getting another ferret to help her out though and they need company as they are not solitary animals

Yeah thanks for the advise mate.I am looking around for a mate for her.

I am just waiting for a ferret finder before i try her down some holes as i am told that she could kill under ground and that a ferret finder is a must before you work a ferret.

I wonder how often will i have to take her to the vets for a injection to keep her out of season or am i just best to breed from her?

When she comes in season (every year) take her to the vets for a "Jill Jab" about 12 to 18 Quid. No point in breeding unwanted ferts. Get your jill a mate. A castrated hob from a rescue or sanctuary would be ideal. All ferts will work given the chance, the more you handle and socialise them, the better. HTH. Cheers, D.

ok mate what i suggest you do is buy your self a few books read them over and over again

the best thing you can do is find someone to show you the ropes on here. you would have been better of with two hobs but youve got the gill now so what i suggest you do is go and find yourself a gill kit or an older tame jill try to avoide an older jill whats been worked as its probably a skulter and qute frankly there good for nothing try looking in the forsale section in ferrets for a gill or just simply ask around. all the best rabbit tourmentour
