woz 260
have a look through the last couple days posts in the deer stalking section.best calibre for fox and roe..theres been a big debate on 243/22-250/223 Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
As for a variation I can't see there being a problem if you have been shooting .22-250 and the Scottish police forces are pretty good. I'd say the .243 is a very good all-round calibre, a fair bit more punch, and a good ammunition choice, but if what you're using at the moment works, I'd be inclined to stick with it. When you have knackered out the .22-250, then perhaps think of a .243 for a change. Regards SS Quote Link to post

Regards SS i started making my own bullets 55gr v max they seem a good bullet through the gun i have only had 1 deer run on about 40 yds then he fell i was looking at the 243 for a heavier bullet will police be ok if its only roe and foxes mate ? ps You got a hangover Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
I cant see the Police causing you any hassle, a Roe is Deer, so if you already have a .22-250 for Deer, then a .243 is not that big a step up. I know what you're saying about the heavier bullets, it does inspire confidence! I can't see why they wouldn't let you keep the both of them, .243 and .22-250. Hangover? Nah, I was slow and steady  SS Quote Link to post
IanB 0
Just tell them you shoot roe south of the border, you pay for stalking were a .243 is a legal requirement.. Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
Only way you'll find out is put in your Variation and see. I cant envisage any problems as many people have a dedicated fox gun and a Deer gun, so you should be OK. But yeah, as Ian says, tell them you are planning to stalk in England & Wales and need a .243 for anything above Muntjac & CWD. If you had the chance to stalk Fallow, you would be fine Bullet weight wise, and perhaps even the Red with a 100 grainer. Good Luck, SS Quote Link to post
mattydski 560
You will have no problem getting a .243 for fox and Deer. I have .243, and only shoot Roe and Fox. Especially if you have deer on your ticket now, and it is an open one. Just put in a variation, i doubt they will even visit you. Dont forget to add a Mod when you put your variation in. 243 pretty noisy without IMHO. Matt Quote Link to post
Deker 3,491
I rather suspect the 22-250 is perfectly adequate for both but if you can afford a .243 as well so much the better..the bigger the choice of tools you have the bigger your choice of situation and quarry!! CF wise I run a .223 and .243 and I'm looking to fill my .308 slot at the moment...and I wish to god I could shoot the Roe in England with my .223...How daft is it..my .223 lists as Roe in Scotland on my FAC but not England of course!! Mr_Logic 5
If you feel like an addition, then 243 works nicely. But so does 22-250 so there is no real need for a change, you just might fancy it! Quote Link to post
sounder 9
.243 man feck it Quote Link to post
barrym3 11
phoned licensing guy today and said i wanted to get a 243 he said i will have more chance putting my 22.250 away and only having a 243 i would have liked to have both so not sure wat to do now i know people who live here that has a 243 and 223 and another guy has a 243 and 270 but no red stalking Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
My best advice is to ignore what the FEO's say, and just put in for an additional .243. They can only say no!! SS Quote Link to post
bobby b 0
yea man just get both. Quote Link to post
