Anyone getting work done on their shooting irons?

Hi folks,

Just wondering if any of ye are getting work done on yer rifles or shotguns? If ye can can ye tell us what yer getting done and the reason behind it ;)

I'm planning on getting between 5"-6" taken off my .223's 26" barrel. It'll get screw cut for a moderator, most likely a Jet Z Compact, and a nice re-crown job at the same time. Should end up an easier to handle quieter rifle and maybe more accurate in the end of it as well.

My .22lr just needs it's bolt sorting and a little length added to the stock then it'll be just as I want it

I'm having my 6.5x55 threaded for a mod at the moment. The rifle is pretty basic, a CZ 550 MC but i find i shoot quite well with it. The barrel is around 23" long and i'm keeping it that length as the 6.5 is quite a slow burning round and it'll probably need the length. The threading has been done and i'm waiting for it to come back from the proof house. Given that my barrel is quite long anyway i'm going for the Wildcat Predator 8 which sleaves over, hopefully only adding a couple of inches and not making it too long and off balance.

My CZ rimmy's bolt could do with a little tinkering on the extractor as it sometimes doesn't like ejecting live rounds but thats a rare issue.

I seem to remember seeing some zero cards produced by that rifle on here that looked like they all went in the same hole... more accurate :notworthy:

Since putting the Trigger kit in CZ HMR I can't find any fault with it. So no work is planned on that, out shoots me!

I want a new moderator for the .222 get rid of the T8 (Overkill for a .222) and put something lighter, modern, and possibly more effective.

I may just invest in a new stock for it , possibly a thumbhole.

I want the stock on one of my shotguns stripped of the useless varnish and re-done in Oil at some point too...........................

no serious work for me , possibilty of the hmr barrel being trimmed down on the quad , leaving the sako 75 the same came screw cut so no problems there just not made up my mind what mod to get??

On a .223 I've heard two moderators. A Jet Z Compact and a T8, overall the T8 was slightly quieter to my deafened and battered hearing but I would still go for the Jet Z out of the two

No point in tinkering too much Local when you're shooting well  You've reminded me that my Remmys bolt doesn't always extract fired rounds, that needs seeing to as well. If you mean my rifle, I think it was the batch of ammo I was using at that time. Though I've not shot any groups with it in.... How long :icon_eek: The last ones I did notice it hadn't the same accuracy, still on the money for foxing but report card reads "Could do better" ;)

Been farting around with my .223 T3 Lite for ages, new mods, scopes, mounts..the gun is great but the balance is crap...getting very close to the point, where having tried everything else, a few inches will have to come off the barrel!! Even GMK are aware of the problems with this model, and suggest owners remove the butt pad and add lead in expanding foam to improve the balance!!

Cost me a fortune so far this gun..

.......my T3 Hunter is fine though, as it has the short barrel already and heavier stock, good balance even with the Bipod and Predator on the end of it!!

i'm thinking of building a shed first i'm geting that much done to the tikka, i'm at the stage where i find i can do better will the right tools although it has never let me down......

So first a custom inlet and A5 stock from mcmillian with moulded in colour, stainless match grade border barrel fluted and screw cut and thread protector fitted.

i'm told the 595 action will not need truing but we'll see when we get there.......full piller bedding job...and a little play around with the trigger

and hey presto.......thats it.........now all i gotta do is pay for it............. :icon_eek::cry:

I seem to remember, something, somewhere, about my group with it being utterly useless  And at 50 yards too! Should have been near the same hole, yet I think you could fit a €1 coin inside the grouping!!

Ah Well

 True, I put it down to your shooting though :ninja::laugh: , plus it being almost dark and us having to use a lamp to see the target :clapper:

put a juel trigger in my remmy 700 vssf 22-250 today..my hands are battered up quite badly and i have no feeling in my fingers so i feel the trigger pull from the back of my hand..the standard remmy trigger gives to much creep so iv changed it and its brought my groups considerably tighter......

 I was about to suggest the Hunter before I finished reading your post. The Lite is as it says on the tin but the balance isn't the best especially with a mod and bipod added :icon_eek: I liked the Hunter when I handled it I have to say.

Minor detail Snap, minor :yes::clapper::big_boss:

Ah yes, the Jewell, sweet isn't it :D It's like it's linked to the brain, think and away she goes yet completely safe!

Got to love those trigger kits, fitted one to my cz in the most cave-man like way (2lb hammer, old nail, swan neck pliers)... wouldn't trust myself to do anything more complicated.
