Scoobys best night yet

After having a bit of a re training session on my pups retrieving on thursday after he had refused the night before I decided to take him for a few runs on the lamp. First field as soon as we stepped through the gate there was 2 rabbits sat next to each other, scooby who is just getting the hang of going down the beam ran towards them and one launched itself into the air and he nailed it as it landed, then for the will he wont he but he did and I was like a dog with two dicks as he started trotting straight towards me with it :59:

He missed a few as the ground was really wet sticky clay that was really hard to walk on let alone chase conies. Theres some big splashes on there too that are covered in ducks and one rabbit decided it was going to chance crossing one but unfortunately for Scoob (hilariously for me) it turned out to be a proper pond and he dissapeared from view under water . The rabbit got away though even though my mate tried to grab it as it exited the pond. Then he caught one which ran behind an obstacle towards a gate so I turned off the lamp which normally stops him and brings him back but we heard a squeal and he appeared with a rabbit in his gob He missed a few more from this swamp but ended up with 5 and a french partridge which he nailed on the approach to a rabbit all retrieved to hand bar the last rabbit as he stopped for a rest half way so I helped him out and went and got it as he'd tried bloody hard tonight.

We had a quick shine from the car on another bit of permission on the way home and saw 2 foxes and then spotted a rabbit which was an ideal slip but the rabbit had other ideas and went into the rough on a big unjumpable ditch side that has no holes in, i'd given up on it but my mate went for a look and spotted it near the water level. I climbed down and it flew past my head and leapt from the top and set off jumping across the field and Scooby picked it up and retrieved it with no problems. His damaged dew claw held out too.

That was the last one and I was made up, might sound like nothing to some of you guys but that is really good going for round here especially with an 11month old pup :clapping: :drunk:

Hi mate, what age did you start running him at? Got a 7 month old myself and wondering when to start him and how often.

Sorel I showed him what quarry was at about 7 months just so that he knew but then held him back until he was probably ten months and introduced him gently. Ten month might sound early but I knew the dog was physically ready to start having a couple of chases. His prey drive has kicked in properly now and he no longer acts like a pup, he will in the park or garden when you have a ball though . Only you will know when your dog is ready, don't overmatch him though, i keep mine away from big rabbits for the time being.

Cheers mate, just put a post up this evening. Caught his first bunny this evening, not planned just opertunity presented itself and it looked like a promissing run for a youngster.
