goldfinch2007 2,337
Went down to our friends chicken farm yesterday in Lincolnshire. He'd emptied one shed of chickens, and had a week gap before the new birds came in, so he called us lot in to rid the farm of a few rodents. Of course, we obliged The team consisted of our 3 Border Terriers (Imbra, Hope and Glory) and 2 lurchers (mother and daughter Atol and Reeba)... Reeba and Hope both unexperienced in fast action ratting, so we were keen to see how they did. The other dogs were Alans 2 Borders, Fizz and Fern, and cross bred terrier Gemma. As soon as we got to the farm and got the dogs out of the pick up, they went straight to a pile of rubbish wood and plastic and started marking keenly. First rat of the day was acounted for by Atol. Imbra got the next one. Young Hope caught one next and got bit... just angered her more and she didn't look back from that point onwards. Did us proud. Imbra and Hope get another one. We got about 40 odd rats from a couple of piles of rubbish around the outside of the shed. Some proper fast action at one point with rats bolting in every direction, people jumping about all over, dogs killing one then dropping it straight away to get the next one. I killed a few myself with my big boots! Moved on to the inside of the shed, where we usually get a few inside the walls. Wasn't disappointing and we accounted for probably another 30 odd in here. Me and my lurchers waiting for a bolt. Reeba and Imbra going for one. Malcs first live catch of the day. Reeba and Imbra with one outside the shed. Went on to the second shed to do around the outside. Couldn't do inside because it was full of chickens. While we were walking over to it Atol had found and caught one, quickly followed by one of the Borders. Imbra and Glory This bugger was determined to get away... but it didn't, Imbra got it! Reeba got this one Tally up at the end of the day... 129 rats, not including pinkies. Me and Atol. The team worked fantasticallly, the 2 young pups did us really proud. Wasn't a duck egg amongst them all. Went back to the farmhouse, tin of beer, cottage pie and yorkshire puds... natter and catch up for an hour, then back on the road to sunny West Yorkshire. Shell love the pics hats off to the dogs Quote Link to post
