Ferrets

Recommended Posts

I havn't kept ferrets for 25 years, when I was a lad I used to feed mine the odd bit of liver here and there chicken giblets, and any rabbits we caught or shot.

I am in hampshire and I am considering getting a couple of ferrets once again, but I have a few questions?

1. I feed my terrier raw minced chicken, rabbit, tripe, is it considered ok to feed ferrets the same gear as I feed my dog?

2. I plan to use these ferrets with my pest control job, rabbits and rats, for rats is a smaller ferret a better option as obviously the idea is to bolt the dirty fuggers?

3.should I make the final decision who's got some in Hampshire

cheers lads

yes thay can neat pritty much what ever you give them, umm not 100% sure about ratting but id say that a skinny jill or a small hob would be best becasue of the size o the holes thay have to go down, and dont know anny thing about the last question. hope this helps a bit :victory:

I have found the ferts will not eat tripe for my dogs, others may have different results, would be far better feed on rabbit, wood pidgeon etc

as for ratting with them, again, I wouldent but others do, what are you going to do with the flushed rats?, shoot or dogs

far better in my eyes to use a smoker and have the terriers waiting, than risk a badly wounded ferret

dowt youll find many people who will give you a ferret just so you can kill it (work rats with it) there are better and easyr ways of doing things, like a smoker allthough it costs

A big old hob can obviously take more abuse from a rat than a little jill could, but it depends on the size of the holes etc as to what you can use. If possible, avoid ratting with them as its pretty risky tbh.

Pretty much any meat (or tripe) is ok to feed 'em, as long as you know its safe (no infection/diseases etc. visable) but if you mean like canned dog food, then no. Its pretty bad for them altogether and doesnt give them the right nutrients.
