so lets get this straight,

THEY have a rabbit problem,

yet are dictating to you, how you must get rid of them :wallbash:

to be honest, if it were me, I'd tell them to stick it,

the college and another place I ferret, both asked first and stipulated ferreting only, on inspection of both permissions, I pointed out the cons on ferreting only, and subsequently got permission on one to snare, shoot(air rifle), live catch and ferret, and on the college to ferret and live catch, with the wording on the permission letter to be, to eradicate the area of rabbits in a humane manner

at the end of the day, its their problem to control the rabbits, they in turn, like all others want it done free of charge, therefore if your up to carrying on with this permission, you need to stand upto them, and start stating some facts, reguarding rabbit control, and the fact that you are doing it free of charge, I even got one permission, that I already had shooting, snare and ferreting permission, to buy 10 live catch traps, to use inbetween my visits, showing them how to bait and humanely dispatch a rabbit,

ok, does your dad help out?, can he be named on any letters, permissions etc, are the allotment people on your side, to help in anyway possible as far as writing letters with there name on etc

the little old ladie who keeps horses, should know the expense of calling a vet out to attend a horse that has tripped down a rabbit scrap or burrow

but get the allottment to write a letter, or phone her, saying the rabbits on her land are entering their land and eating produce, then quote

prevention of damage by pests act 1949

pests act 1954

she has the obligation to control the rabbits on her land, but also to stop them from entering others, therefore quote rabbit proof fencing as a first option, very, very expensive, then quote, but we have a mr rabbit tourmentor that is ferreting the allotment area free of charge

it can be a little long winded, but its the correct way to go about it, even if she's a bunny hugger, when you point out its the law to control rabbits, and that it can be as cheap or as expensive as they like, they normally give permission

if she were to still say no, then the next letter would go to the council, quoting the same legalisation, the council can then send her letters as they have too, having recieved a complaint from the allotment, if she doesent control the rabbits, the council can enter her land, to clear the rabbits and then charge her, it normally dont go that far, normally when they see COUNCIL/EXPENSE etc in the same letter, she should get onto the allotment, asking for your services

There's some top advice there, and all for free.

You see what marriage does to a man.

i can see this post going on for ever with f**k all getting done !

failing stubbies advice with regards to the pest acts been used & if you cant get onto the side where the main problem is coming from: either,

* live cage trap. get them to pay for them & say you will check them on a daily basis.

* use mk6 fenns & place them correctly flush with the ground level in "open meshed" cubby tunnels, get you dad to set them.

* advise the allotment owners / keepers to put a few quid together & place up rabbit proof fencing & install a few drop boxes which will last for years to come.

* or tell them that its not the right job for you as they have put up too many restrictions & hurdles in your way.
