scothunter 12,609
I have seen ferrets kept on there own. They were good workers and lived to a ripe old age.I personally dont cz i like a good working team.I also read that they are really quite happy living on their own.Must say from what i have seen on lonesome ferts this seems to hold some validity.Wouldn't call it cruel.A dog is a social animal sort of but they live a happy life on their todd.If you are saying keep it by itself and dont handle it and never work it then i would say thats a bit cruel. But why you want a ferret that you didnt socialise with is questionable Quote Link to post

Rhodey 96
Well polecats are solatry aminals, people keep rabbits quinea pigs, dogs, cats, horses etc on there own why not a ferret. I wouldn't do personally. Also I wouldn't sell it to her as she is 13 she is most probably some emo kid trying to have a unusual pet and doesn't realise how long they live. Quote Link to post

Kay 3,709
All i can say is from experience if you get 2 kits get then neutered if there purely for pets & get them together. Again from experience i have had more problems getting jills to accept another ferret if they have spend a decent period of time alone , i dont believe if they arnt curled up together within a few hours of intros they will ever be totally happy, imo its stressfull on the anti social ferret to expect it to live with another ferret because it makes our lives easier Its certainly not good for the ferret on the receiving end off the contant attacks , so here at one point i had a block of cages all with single jills in them due to them not mixing Quote Link to post
