Designer Dogs.

Nice looking pup :D This has allready been done a lot in America, you get merle chihuahuas, pomeranians and poodles, all of them had to have something else crossed in to pass on the merle colour, most likely would be a dapple (merle) daschund as they are one of the smallest breeds that naturally carry the merle gene. There were some imported merle chihuahuas on epupz a while back that were selling for double the price of normal coloured Uk ones with Kc reg, mad eh? :D

when i was young you would see these types of mongrels ,they were accident matings selling for a fiver now it seems to be a craze where they try to create dogs that dont cast their coats .i first met a labradoodle about 4 years back ive got to admit it looked quite a nice family dog and the owner was bragging that she had paid £1,000 for it ,i couldnt believe it a grand for a mongrel

We get loads of 'designer' dogs a work.......from Labradoodles to Puggles,Sprockers, Sprollies, and Schnoddles, then the PugxS/Tzu is a favourite and Yorkie x Chihuahua plus others but i cant think of them and the price these people have paid for them is mental.........Absolute madness

i think part of the whole craze was a backfired attempt at getting people to adopt mutts from shelters. the shelters gave them cute names like "Moot Point" - malamute/pointer, "Collaboration" - Collie lab Dalmatian.. etc and so on.

some people in the world would accuse every member in this forum of being a designer dog breeder because of your lurcher mixes... and in a way i guess you are lol combining a Saluki with collie or grey, or the bull x grey, or bedlingtonxwhippets... some of the do-gooders will ask "whats wrong with the pure bred version?

with most working kennel club breeds you have the bench dogs and the working dogs and never the two shall meet... at least not in the ring or field! so these people will still ask why not stick to the field versions of the pure breds.

i ask... what does it matter?

this is NOTHING new. its old news..... its only rearing its head now because the kennel club set is losing its credibility to produce healthy dogs. after.. (what? a hundred years?) dogs that have been in kennel clubs are dying prematurely of all kinds of ailments, and the bigger the dog the shorter the lifespan.

anyway.... i'm not surprised by any of it.... only disappointed in the ones who are doing it just for the money.

People cross working breeds for the traits, they don't do it to give it a cute catchy name & looks, just to make themselves extra cash. If people want to pay stupid money for a dog just because it's the 'in' thing to do it's up to them, but I just don't see the point myself,

to an extent i see a point to the "Designer dogs"

.. puggles for example.... they probably dont have the same breathing problems as a pure bred pug.

and chihuahua/doxie mixes... probably dont have the same back problems as a pure doxie nor will they need C-sections to be born as with many pure chihuahuas.

i could list several other mixes that are a good thing, but i'lll spare you lol

the merle thing concerns me though. i have heard a lot of bad things can happen if you dont know your business with breeding merles. like breeding a merle to a merle can produce something called a lethal white, and most of the time those die, or they're born blind or deaf or both.

but yeah these breeders arent seeing it the way i do. all they see is the fad and money involved. especially the morons who breed "hypoallergenic" dogs.... no such thing.

Lets be honest peeps the only reason people breed designer dogs is because they fetch decent money and the only reason people buy them is because they want to be "different"............Or am I just being cynical :)

you're being cynical and honest, which most of the time go hand in hand lol

.. sad as it is ..

still, i stand by my earlier statement. this is nothing new. many of our kennel club breeds are the result of people cross breeding dogs to dumb them down into suitable pets.... now those dogs are unhealthy lumps so people want to start fresh again. the goal is still, and always will be "Create the Perfect Pet"

Seen a woman in the craft tent at the Welsh Gamefair with a small pram, on closer inspection there was a fecking yorkie in the pram with pink ribbons on it, and the pram was specially for the mut.
