mattydski 560
I used to enjoy the Rowing, especially when Pincent and Redgrave put their oar in the water. Great representatives for their sport. I also used to enjoy the field sports, I always used watch the olympics, but work detracts from that now. Years ago daley thompson, had the nerve to stand up just because he didnt agree that heineken or someone shouldn't be a sponsor for the event, but now in a world of highly paid athletes and sportsman they're all willing to dance with the devil for a decent payday.....absolute class!!!!!!!! comanche 3,295
Sadly for every athelete who wants to compete honestly in the sport they love there are hundreds of dodgy characters riding on their backs who will corrupt the ethos of fair play for financial and political gain . This starts at a local level. Example .The Counciller /developer who decided we needed a hotel on a bit of my town's green space .Shortly after this application it was anounced that the swimming -pool next to the proposed developement site had been approved for Olympic training Then there is the Chinese government.A political system genuinly and desperatly seeking acceptance of the modern world by leading it's people away from a fuedal past .Or a slightly slicker version of the corrupt and tyranical regimes that have ruled the country for hundreds of years? Politics in sport can back-fire though on those who hope to spin things to their advantage. Remember Jesse Owen at the pre WW2 Berlin Olympics in Germany. Really p*ssed Adolph off. If only Dali Lama could run100 metres! To be honest I'd rather go fishing.
