J Darcy 5,871
Had a walk through some good mixed woodland today and saw these. These pics are not the best in the world and, in fact, i was unhappy with the quality of todays piccys. The lens just doesnt seem to want to get really sharp for some reason today....however, these are the best of a bad lot.....

J Darcy 5,871
They are lovely yes Butler.....i managed to find a wood thats got a few in. Saw a clutch of 2 young nuthatches too today when i was checking my nest boxes. The most worrying thing though was the amount of dead tits in the boxes. Lots of them, and all fully feathered and ready to jump too. The pics do not do the birds justice i am embarrassed to say.......JD

Tis TM 8
Have you any guesses on why the fledgling tit's have perished?.... Sad
DUCKWING 302
WELL LADS , BLUE TITS AND OTHERS PERISH EASILY AND IF THE NEST BOX IS IN FULL SUN AND BADLY SITUATED THE HEAT WE HAVE HAD OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS WILL FRY THEM ALL THE BEST DUCKWING
J Darcy 5,871
These nest boxes are mostly under the canopy mate. I actually had to despatch a chick myself. It was obviously ill and was certainly weak in my hands. I hope the rest of the clutch in that box survive...
byron 1,282
in a wood i go in. there have been reports of blue/great tits [fully fledged] dying of in boxes. were as in different parts of this same wood chicks are doing well and fledging.as these boxes are well shaded with the tree canopy i dont see it as a heat problem. but as duckwing says wrongly sited boxes will fry them. so it could be a food problem?
