Savaged by a ferret

Recommended Posts

Personally i would just feed him as much as he will eat for the first 4 or 5 days , let him get used to the new surroundings then once he is fammiliar with the new feeding regime then do some more in deapth handling

had him out this morning, he's had a good feed. and he's fine, had a sniff but not tried to bite yet. gonna bath him today as he is a bit more yellow than he should be. be nice for him to cool off anyway. yep and with the new finder i'm getting off sue, it won't be as bad if he kills either!

things are looking up!

thanks for all the replies folks

i took in a male ferret which was adult and was a bad biter.

We rehomed him. What he was doing was lunging at a hand and biting badly, we found ou that the previous owner just chucked in paunched rabbits in the cage of about 30 ferrets and they had to fend for themselves.

I have been bitten numerous times by the ferret and just let him get on with it, I also treated the ferret to some lovely Ferretone ( they love it )

The ferret now greets me when i open the door and out some food in - he will also eat mince gently from my hand.

It takes time and perseverance and a lot of handling and stroking to reassure the ferret you are being nice.

Also, we rehomed the ferret with 2 others so there is only 3 of them in the same hutch and i beleive this helps too.

We have 23 ferrets whuich are pets and we dont work them.

We have plenty of spare hutches should any need rehoming or even if you wish to have a holiday and need a ferret-sitter.

Feel free to drop me a PM

I am based near March, Fenland, Cambs.

cheers for the offer quasar, he will eventually live with my 2 jills, but not sure if he's got worms (either wiping his ass on the floor or his bits[possibly senting?]) so gonna worm him first the about a weeks time he can go in with them.

Plenty of socialising with yourself and other ferrets, loads of grub, comfortable quarters, loads of talking to and handling, bit of time and TLC as Kay says and I reckon 2 weeks should see you on the up side. Good luck, cheers, D.
