Out For a few hours...

Recommended Posts

Had a bit of a mooch on the mountain near my house, took my albino hob out with me and a few nets and the locator and i must say i was really suprised at the result!

I got more than i normally get on my permissions!

Im not sure about the law on ferreting on common land but its just barren mountain with lots of gorse and theres nothing like walking up there on a day like this for some fresh air and a few rabbits (hopefully).

So anyway i walked the 2 miles up to the mountain and i saw a patch of gorse with a few holes around it so i netted up and to be honest i could have done wtih a helping hand as i couldnt see the holes on the other side of the gorse but i didnt feel like asking afew friends as i just wanted to get up and go, no planning .

After about 10 minutes the first one bolted, just as i was about to get the locator out and then suddenly they were everywhere!

They were bolting in front of me, round the other side of the bush, behind me, to be honest i had my hands full!. About 5 bolted alltogether from that 1 bury but i missed 1 when i was untangling a rabbit from the net and another 1 came out of the same hole without the net!

Anyway i carried on onto a 2-holer and heard squealing so out comes the locator and i took 1 of the nets off to see if i could stick my hand in ith no luck so i turned round to get the shovel and out pops the ferret from the unnetted hole with the rabbit in its mouth and started running away with it!

I couldnt believe my eyes so i got the camera out and snapped him stealing the rabbit .

After all that i decided to finish up with afew rabbits in the bag and some exersise for the ferret.

All in all a good little ferreting session with 5 rabbits in about 2 hours and ill be visiting that mountain afew more times in the future :whistling: .

Oh that ferret wasnt giving up without a fight  nice one , looks fun  whats that stripe down the rabbit or is it just the fur ?

Hi Kay,

I think its just the wind seperating the fur as it was quite windy up there .

Great pictures. Your hob running away with his catch must have been a funny sight. He definitely didn't want to let that one get away
