I used to use straw or paper, but it makes a mess and the terriers used to piss in it from time to time. Now I use vet bed: yes it's expensive, but once you've bought it vetbed lasts forever. Just wash it once a week and it dries within half an hour, unless its raining LOL.

Very warm in winter.

In the summer I put that away and put pieces of carpet (free from skips out back of carpet shops) down in the terrier boxes, though I always make sure the lurchers have either a very thick carpet or leave their vet bed in as well as they have thinner skins and can get kennel sores or bald bits if they lie on hard surfaces all the time. The carpet stays in the lurcher kennels all year round for greater insulation and comfort, (I usually change it a couple of times a year or whenever it gets a bit smelly, though the terriers tend to chew theirs up when they get bored LOL. No matter: it hasn't cost me a penny.

Hi I know, I don't use kennels for my girls they are inside. Sounds if the dogs either rubbing on the hard surface or need get checked out by a vet. I use vet bedding.
