would crossing a black eyed white to another, give you all black eyed white kits, or is there other colour in theyre make up that

gives the black eyes and white coat colouring ?

there's two thoughts here, some think BEW's are a breed to themselves, other say its a silver that has moulted out the gaurd hairs, I 've seen alot of posts, from members, saying they breed a pair of BEW's and got silvers from them, this would lead you to belive the BEW's were silvers

either way, Im sure driod will be able to give you more info, but BEW's and silvers are recessive and should not be paired together, although others will tell you to go for it

WITH ALL YOU EXPERTS ON HERE, ONLY STUBBY WOULD GIVE SOME INGIGHT INTO WHAT I ASKED.

AND HE'S NOT SURE BUT I THOUGHT THERE WOULD BE SOMEONE WHO WOULD KNOW. I WOULD THINK IT BE SAID THAT 99% ON HERE WITH FERRETS AINT GOT A CLUE, ABOUT LINES BREEDIG OR GENETICS. AND YET WHEN IT COMES TO PET FERRETS, AND HOW TO FUSS THEM 99%

OF YOU WOULD KNOW THE ANSWEAR TO THAT.

THANKS STUBBY A IMPORTANT QUESTION I ASKED THAT YOU TRIED TO ANSWEAR NICE ONE

done a bit of scouring the net, and a few of the americans who write all that crap about ferrets that the pet keepers get there hands on and then start quoting, do say that a BLACK EYED WHITE, which they class as a DARK EYED WHITE, is in fact a silver, that has moulted out the silver guard hairs,

I to have always thought, that BEW's dont really exist as a colour, just SILVERS, I have two silver jills, that in their winter coats, could easily be classed as BEW's

I've said all I'm going to regarding the genetics of DEWs and Silvers on another thread. :whistling:

I might be wrong, but I think friedrice had some input into that thread.... :D

Ive never bred silver to silver ,my working line have been all sandys so i havnt a lot of knowledge down silver lines ,i did intrduce a silver hob as a new gene to my sandy jills 4 years back and out of that litter there was 4 sandy jills a silver hob and a wierd coloured hob a mix of silver/sandy fur not patches but a funny all over mix.Now the stud hob and what was the silver kit are both molted out the silver colour and are both bews.

The silver and/or BEW gene are dominant over the albino gene! In fact, everything is dominant over the albino gene so does that mean we can't breed albino to albino?

Erm, no is the answer!

Genetics are far too complicated to simply say you should not breed one colour to another - for a start the colour of the ferret is determined by two genes, one of which may not be obvious ;)

I think that the question you asked, would be better answered on a ferret pet/showing forum.

There are some very knowledgeable people on here, but most people here breed thier ferrets for working ability, not eye colour.

Good luck on your breeding program though.

let us know how you get on if you go ahead.
