when it comes to digging the main thing with myself and the lads i dig with is seeing our terriers worked to the full in all types of earths from straight fowards to big testing places if its digable we ll do it but when it comes to the quarry its all released to fight another day unless the landowner insists on us to cull it .there s nothing like the feeling of entering a dog which you have bred and reared and digging it in a hard and testing place it makes all the hard work in getting them to this stage worth while .I think the people who run more than one dog in an earth are more interested in getting stuff on the bank and not worried about the quality of there dogs but will still boast about the exploits of the brave little tykes and breed them every time they get a chance its wrong in my opinion there just kidding themselves . hunting for me is about seeing good dogs work well not about the killing JMHO.

IF THEY DON T SPECIFY THEN WE LET THEM RUN,WHY KILL ALL YOUR SPORT AND THEN RUN AROUND AFTER CHRISTMAS COMPLAINING ABOUT RIFLE MEN CAUSE YOUR NOT GETTING ANY.

cos what i kill in a season rifle men do in a night. and the farmers do specify, kill foxes. thats why they let me on in the first place.as i said.

when im finished a days hunting its nice to able to tell the farmer that there's one less lamb killer knocking around his land. i dont hunt cos i enjoy killing, i hunt cos i love watching my terriers and hounds work. but i have an obligation to my farmers to do pest control for them and that means killing foxes when the chance arrises.

and agree totally about doubling up etc... we only allow one terrier off the lead at any time. thats the only way to ensure no double ups.

WHITSER WE ASK TO HUNT ON THE LAND,NOT A PEST CONTROL SERVICE.WE ARE NOT RENTAKIL.I HUNT TO WORK MY DOGS ALWAYS HAVE ALWAYS WILL.IF THE FARMER SAYS I WANT IT DEAD WE OBLIGE BUT IF HE DOESN T SPECIFY WE MOSTLY LET IT RUN.

LADS RECKON THEY CAN T ADD IT TO THE TALLY[NOS GAME]IF ITS NOT DEAD.WE COUNT DIGS TO INDIVIDUAL DOGS ,NOT DEAD THINGS.

REMINDS ME OF OLD BOYS GOING TO THE STOCK FISHERIES AND KILLING THEIR 3 FISH A DAY,JUST TO GET THEIR SHARE AND MONIES WORTH ,EVEN THOUGH THEY NEVER EAT THEM.OR FELLAS KILLING STUFF FRON GROUND THAT OTHERS HUNT ,SO THE OTHERS CAN T HUNT IT.ALSO MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE TO TESTING YOUR ANIMALS CAPABILITIES IF YOUR NOT DIGGING "GREEN" GAME ALL THE TIME.

Good point pip about green game, once game has been dug once the next time it meets a dog face to face in the dark it becomes a much harder opponent which in turn gives the dog a proper test. IMO we need to test our dogs regular so as to weed out the weaker dogs and only keep those that are of a high standard, sure if a dog has'nt been tested on educated game you're never gonna know whether it will spew or not. I think a dog needs testing especialy if it is to be bred from. JMO.

if i was a pest controller i wouldn't be a very good one. im certanlly not in the numbers game. i hunt to work my dogs also. i work terriers single handed and count digs not kills. i would have a lot more foxes killed if i wanted too. by for example flushing to guns or lurchers but i dont. i use my hounds and terriers and thats it.

as for rifle men. in one area i hunt i got 3 foxes, all dug. local gun man shot 46! so im not the one making serious in roads to the local fox population.

if i was only after dead foxes i could have killed 20 at least this year by flushing to a gun. but im happy if i get a good hunt for my hounds. but if we get a dig i cull. my farmers would expect no less. dont think they'd be happy to hear im letting lamb killers go.
