wiccamiss 0
There was an emergency during the week and my sister had to leave her dogs in the car for a couple of hours. during this time the dogs got into a fight and one was injured. Someone phoned the police and sspca. Both forced my sister to take the dog to the closest vet. She told them on the dog being admitted that they were on benefit and that they were registered at the PDSA. However the vet took the dog in and treated the dog, running up a bill of £500 approx. Now the vet is demanding half the bill be paid up front. My sister cannot afford this and has asked that a payment plan be installed. The vet won't release the dog despite it being ready to come home therefore the bill is rising. Its not a hunting dog but i thought you guys might have a clue as to where she stands on getting her dog back? Thanks
wiccamiss 0
anyone????
Guest BLUEBUNNIE
the pdsa should pay it and she should only have to make a donation, or she could agree a weekly amount to pay if thats not the vet that she is registered with Edited March 15, 2008 by BLUEBUNNIE
mole catcher 1
sounds like the vets being an arse. i had to take my lurcher to the vets out of hours after a lamping accident. it wasnt my vets and i told the vet before hand i wouldn have enough cash to pay the bill in full. i was told as long as i made a payment on picking up the dog and agreed to pay the rest in instalments that would be ok. i would suggest you offer to pay something as you pick up the dog and arrange a payment plan, explain the situation and like has been said contact the pdsa and try to work something out. if the vets refuse than its a case of the vet putting cash reward before animal wellfair. wiccamiss 0
she already asked the vet to put a payment plan in place and he refused. Can she demand her dog back? Edited March 15, 2008 by wiccamiss

sue 1
i dont think she can demand her dog back ,and cos the vet has refused her credit to pay in installments i think she will have to go to the pdsa and explain everything to them and hopefully they can bail her out
harrycatcat 31
For what its worth I think you should contact the police and tell them that the vet is withholding your dog without permission. Also get a reference number from them it will help if and when it goes to a civil court. He cant withhold it just because money is owed, that is a civil matter and seperate to to the issue , in my opinion. Also contact citizen advise, the vet will soon let go if you cause him some grief. Kay 3,709
Well if the vet wont release the dog untill the bills paid what does he intend to do with the dog then , pass it on to whoever payes regardless of whoever that is
whip 1
might be worth contacting the royal vetinary college, there must be some procedure to follow, also may have a complaints department
pigeonphill 69
i shouldnt have thought the pdsa will help with the bill as it was down to you where you took your dog but at the same time it seems the vet is out of order not releaseing your dog to you if you say you will pay on a payment plan and is also breaking some sort of law not releaseing it back to you hope you can sort it out
Ratman2 2
Do you know why the dogs became agitated enough to fight.
