Moderator for .17HMR rifles

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what mods you lot have on your .17HMR (if you have one), how well they work and which are the best.

I currently have a SAK but don't think it's going to last long, the first three chambers that the round passes through are starting to melt :icon_eek:

We sell hundreds a year for .22 and 17hmr. I have talked lord knows how many people out of expensive moderators, at great cost to the buisness, because they are wasting their money. A moderator needs a certain amount of gas going into it to work properly, it also needs a bore size, as close to the calibre of bullet as possible.Fullbore mods will work, but they arent as efficient as a dedicated rimmy mod, because they are too big, and have too much volume for a small capacity cartridge like the hmr. The best mod money wise, is the sak, its just big enough, without being too big. A little quieter is the ase utra rimfire, but twice as dear. Anything past these is more expensive, probarbly works no better, and to be honest, will not be guaranteed for use on a rimfire. Jackson rifles will not sell a fullbore mod, for use on a rimfire.Someone not long ago used one on both, and it blew up.Rimfires leave a trace of unburnt powder every shot. Save yourselves some money folks.

i use ase utra on my hmr..it was the best part of £300

300,mine was 60 notes

when i got my 223 i bought a ase utra jet z for it....my hmr had a sak ..we were out one night and my mate suggested i tried the ase on the hmr.the differance was amazing..sak mods on a 22lr are brilliant..on a hmr they arnt so good..i bought a second hand t8 for the 223 which cost me £100 so iv left the ase on the hmr..the differance a jet z makes compared to a sak isnt worth the extra £270....but for £100 i wouldnt change the ase for anything....for the money a sak moderators are exellent..i just dropped lucky on the t8 so it worked out well for me.......
