mad al 146
I think if you had a good look at stats for the rest of the UK, you may be in for a bit of a shock As for this being a WELSH thing :realmad: , how the hell can anyone joke about it? I'm always up for the Celt/English thing when it comes to light banter but I find some comments on this thread insulting, but rather than get into a slanging match, I'll give you a bitter pill to swallow. I once worked on a Mental Health Acute Admission Ward and nearly all of the admissions where the clients were considered to be a danger to themselves, came from one of two areas and although they lived in Wales the only connection that they had with the Welsh was that they breathed the same air as us. Now it was so bad that any admission from these two areas were said to be suffering from ********** Valley Syndrome. So what is happening is not new at all, may be the figures are high, but do you honestly think the authorities are going to show any comparisons to this media driven crap? So to anybody out there from whatever country/planet/stone you've materialised, I have this to say to you:- "Don't go pissing down my back and tell me it's raining!" (Welsh born and bread and when I'm gone, I'll be Welsh gone and dead) Edited February 23, 2008 by mad al

(Welsh born and bread and when I'm gone, I'll be Welsh gone and dead) So is it possible that there is a 'wrong' feel about certain places: like wrong feng shui and stuff like that? Or is there a socio/economic reason for acute depression etc in certain places? And is it possible that people suffering from acute mental health problems will be influenced by what other sufferers did before them and follow their example by committing suicide? Just wondering. That's a good question SK .... it's hard not to look for a root cause in something so tragic

Not sure really, but I think that a lot of city folk burn out and see Welsh properties in idyllic locations as a solution to everything without realising the damage that has already been done............such is life. harrycatcat 31
It is very sad when anyone takes their life but even more so when its youngsters. There is no simple solution and the only people that really know why they did it have gone. Although I have to admit that the whole sad scene seems a little unusual for all those friends to do it. kristian 9
I live in Bridgend, well actually one of the surrounding valleys and a couple of the suicides have been very close to home! one a few doors from me and one in a street in front of me having a teenage son myself this is a very worrying time for any parent. The media keep saying theres no link yet nearly all are members of bebo and a lot are friends. My missus went on one of the bebo pages of one of the young girls that had died and there was things posted on there like "hope your partying up there and have met up with the others" wtf! I've worked in different parts of the country and i can tell you theres a lot worse places than wales. It's very sad that these young people feel this way. There has also been something like 7 failed suicides in the area! I'd say the suicides have started probably in the last 18 months -2 yrs thats all before that there was the odd one but nothing like this. I know it's just a matter of time before theres another. Something needs to be done but who knows what? lets hope and pray no one else loses a child this way.
