Cut pad on lurcher

Recommended Posts

Lurcher has cut front pad straight to the bone vet says there might be a chance the blood vessels it has severed might not join back up and it could end up loosing the whole middle toe 😳 has anybody had experience of this situation, basically the front part of pad could literally die !!!!!

If your vet says the toe needs to come off, I'd get a second opinion.

Don't trust most vets. A mate's dog got in a fight with his other, and the vet wanted to take the front leg off. Second opinion from a 'better' vet and the dog will heal fine to run again.

Most vets are anti's

Was it a 12 week old pup that fecked it …. It’s usually the case in dog on dog attacks ( national statistics) that the offending dog is 12 wks or under

The vet knocked the dog out and cleaned up the wound

What's the vet gonna do wi it

The vet knocked the dog out and cleaned up the wound he said it has cut through a lot of the blood vessels and if the pad does not knit together it could lose the toe ! He has wrapped it up and tried to stich it up but as it was so far back on the foot it was hard to do, I am going back to vets  on Monday ,for him to have another look to see how things are going with the wound !

And also some vets are very good, I find them increasingly cautious about outcomes as many Brits are increasingly always looking to blame someone else, ignoring the severity of situations or consequences of their own decisions. That's my grumpy older man view anyway. Hopefully the fact you went to the vet, they cleaned it up will see it right so best wishes for a successful recovery

Likely you've experienced foot injuries before but if not , unsurprisingly, my experience is running dogs are nightmare patients when gentle exercise is required. Four years ago i gave into buying greyhound specific boots, these stay on much better than cheap normal offerings. One of my dogs had slashed a pad on glass and it was 3 months before he was sound, the boots were vital once he began to feel better and we built up his walking.

One of our dogs ended up to the vets with same problem he had stitches in it the nurse done a good job of doing the bandage good job all round went to bed next morning the bugger stripped off all the bloody bandage we was not too happy so we put a old sock on his foot over the dressing and again got it off we shouted at him STOP THAT and ended up wrapping masking tape around the sock and rubbing soap on it he still attempted to get off to he was ready for his stitches out
