philpot 5,091
My youngest daughter has been going for archery lessons over the past few weeks with her pal. She and myself did a bit of archery about 16 years ago but nothing since that. Yesterday Trish and myself went along to watch them, the coach asked if I wanted a go so not needing to be asked twice, I had a three arrows set which I managed to get on the board in a 5'' group off to the left side but nevertheless they were on the target. At the end of the session as we were getting ready to leave, Trish asked if I fancied a taster session to which I said yes so next Thursday we are both booked in. Oh I do hope we don't enjoy it too much because the cost of two outfits are going to be bloody expensive...... Phil Quote Link to post

philpot 5,091
Well having been a few times to watch my daughter, I have booked in myself this Thursday but I have decided to go with the compound bow which is a different sort of animal altogether. I did have a feel and drawer on one that was for sale, bloody amazing thing, when you draw back the string to max, the cams lock out and there is no effort at all holding the string while getting your aim. I feel a new interest looming up here............ This is an example of the compound bow, click on the picture to get a far better image. EK Archery Anvil Compound Bow - Camo WWW.SPRINGFIELDS.CO.UK <p>The EK Archery Anvil Compound Bow is a great bow for all levels of archers with an adjustable draw of 5-55lbs and an adjustable draw length between 15-27"... I will report back after Thursday. 1 Quote Link to post

philpot 5,091
I am going Thursday and will use the club bows but if I get hooked, I will need to learn some more about them as they are quite technical pieces of kit and the fact that some of them are adjustable on the cams to change the poundage. Clever stuff. 1 Quote Link to post
philpot 5,091
Well guys, I went last Thursday for a taster session with these high tech compound bows..........................................hooked, loved it, gotta have one even my wife, Trish is up for a session, at archery you dirty lot... These bows are so specialized in the set up, you really have to know what you are doing (which of course I do not) BUT I am doing quite a lot of research to find the best bow for me and that I have a wide range of power adjustment to allow for my old fartdom taking it's toll. For example these bows can be adjusted from as an example, 10lb pressure up to 70lbs pressure and I tried at 50lb and you certainly know it but I would start at around 30lb and take it from there. And I thought setting up the Impact was tricky............... We are taking our grandson for a taster session this Thursday then into their rifle range as part of his birthday presents, who knows it might become a family thing which has got to be a hell of a lot cheaper that clay pigeon shooting.
