The Crosskeys is highly recommended. However, a few miles upriver and you are in Melrose. Beautiful and possibly the loveliest town in the Borders. My salmon days were not exactly legal. Jimmy Clinkscale, RIP, taught me a number of things including the use of a tennis net and a white tray in the water with me somewhere near with a light and a cleek. Happy days.
