Irish Lurcher 1,013 Posted January 31, 2008 Report Share Posted January 31, 2008 I was out with a friend of mine last night and we were participating in a spot of lamping. As this was only at the back of my mate’s house we were less hopeful than one would be at one of our better spots. Thing is I have seen my mates dog work before he got him, thing is any time he catches a rabbit he takes it by the back leg and then proceeds to retrieve the bunny by carrying it upside by the backside. This looks very awkward to say the least? Here’s some pic,s of him with bunnies we got. How does your lurcher retrieve them??? Link to post

TOMO 28,214 Posted January 31, 2008 Report Share Posted January 31, 2008 my bitch Vsa carries them lovly , across the shoulders, real text book . but my other bitch will often carry them the wrong way up , getting a good kicking for her trouble . you would think at 2.5 years she would lern. i used to have a bitch that carried them real high on the shoulders , having the back of the rabbits head in her mouth Link to post

bill88 6 Posted January 31, 2008 Report Share Posted January 31, 2008 My young un carries them around the middle of the back,but if they struggle she will stop and pin them down between her legs and get a better grip.Maybe its her age,or maybe because she's a small dog. Link to post

My Greyhound rips their heads off and eats them on the spot New lurcher pup is already retrieving things nicely for me tho ... here's hoping she doesn't pick up the Grey's bad habits. Link to post
snoopdog 1,256 Posted January 31, 2008 Report Share Posted January 31, 2008 well my mutt seems to fetch them back however he picked them up ....if he caught it by the ass the it would come back by the ass ......ect ect .......somtimes its to hand others it stops 5 yard away ......something that used to piss me off but ive sort of got used to ...... Just for the record, my own bitch takes then by the back and retrieves alive to hand, starnge that some dogs will bring them back alive, when others will nearly rape the bunny before its retrieved, I surpose you could say that the bunny was buggered.
