Popular Post scottpenn28 246
With the weather currently against us to consider any kind of lamping, without fear of broken feet. Me and the lad took a trip to our very local mountain range (actually a hill range but I won't tell him just yet). The weather was poor and visibility was worse, but he loved every minute mooching with the dogs up the steep wooded hills, encouraging the spaniel into every bush that crossed our path. He exceeded expectations and against a backdrop of guns clapping from the estates shoot day, he made it to the hut at the top. Not much for the dogs, plenty of tracks but nothing moving. He's already planning our next expedition. Give me days like this over those spent indoors anytime! 26 3 Quote Link to post

bird 10,014
nice pics, the young lad did well, dogs look good, you wont beat a spaniel for mooching knocking stuff out, mind you ive been lucky with last 2 lurchers , a gsd x grey , and had collie x grey, both had great nose, and my big dog will go in cover if there game in there, my old lurcher when alive would hang back and wait for a bolt clever bugger lol. get you lad some gloves, i know they dont feel the cold when young, my grand kids never do, but i keep a pair just incase , keep them happy as they say . The only thing he had to carry to the car was his gloves, so naturally when we got there he didn't have gloves. The spaniels nose if top notch and if there is something around she will find out. She also air scents which apparently not many cockers do but how accurate that is I don't know, she's done it from a pup. The lurcher hasn't learnt to hold back yet so tries to follow into cover, usually just getting in the spaniels way! Gsd x grey sounds an interest mix! Quote Link to post

Forgive my ignorance but what is the gsd or mali bringing? Obviously the collie x grey is used by many for many things and seems like a decent way to go, is the gsd just adding bit more stamina? Or less hearding instinct? Top of my head all I can think is the mal just gives a bit more aggression? Quote Link to post

Just been doing a bit of research as was interested. From what I've read they did, as you say, get very popular for a moment, but apparently weren't good enough to stand the test of time. Also they apparently have hip issues, which I can't imagine being wanted in a running dog. However, they supposedly did the business for a time. Forgot to mention that they apparently retain information better than most breeds so we're bred into the x for their brains Edited December 15, 2022 by scottpenn28 Brains Quote Link to post
