Ken's Deputy 4,462
I have a kitchen counter. I made it by covering planks with hardboard. (I'm clever like that) It's served its purpose. But, after a year or three, it's looking shoddy. Still perfectly serviceable. Just a bit grubby looking. Stained. So, I'd like to replace it with something water proof. Like people have. Last I ever knew, that shit was called Formica. Was brutally expensive. And could be bought in various, cut sheets. (I happened to pass a small shop that dealt solely in the stuff) That was decades ago. What's the score now, please? * Note: I'm Not interested in buying a two inch thick slab of coated chipboard from Home Base! I have that else where. Astronomic price! Thanks. Ken's Deputy 4,462
Hmmm ....! Both fukking excellent suggestions! Thanks, lads! It's only a matter that's arisen over the last couple of days, to be honest. I'm on a mission and have Massive plans for what I've come to view as 'That fukking glory hole in the kitchen'. Actually bought a truck load of materials for the rest of it yesterday. Then, today, I took a long, hard look at that surface and thought; " Nope! That's not staying on top of what I have planned! " (Have I showed the fukking monstrosity on here, yet? I know I sent a mate a shot of it the other day. It's fukking horrible! Time I'm finished though, it'll be a centre piece! )

Lenmcharristar 10,273
Formica is expensive too, and needs to be heated to be postformed over the edges, however you can just fit it square edge and then use the end strip and glue it, then use a flush trimmer to tidy it up. Also when we were using Formica it was put into a massive press overnight so it properly bonded. Its not cheap
Ken's Deputy 4,462
Thanks, so much, lads! Resin's a bit above my pay grade, Gnip'! I wouldn't know where to start! And Formica sounds like an absolute nightmare! No, I'm pretty sure I'll be going with Sid's ceramic tiles. Cheap. Readily available. And ~ Relatively ~ easy to work with. I even happen to have an unused box of spacers in my work room! I'm really looking forward to this!

And remember to use a flexi adhesive, and grout for tiling on wood

My mates have just made a bottle top bar for their garden and I've seen floors done in it too.
