'More than doubling the legal limit for single contactless payments, from £45 to £100' - is the bit I don't like, its already to high. People need to stop using it before we become cashless
Greb147 6,810
I should imagine the big jump in corporation tax will affect a few on here who are limited company?

Isn't that not being phased in until 2023 ? There will be about four budgets by then, now that they have a "budget" and an "autumn review", the economy could have forged ahead, or gone down the pan by then ! Anyhow, I don't think corporation tax will affect most of us Cheers.
chartpolski 28,007
Becoming "cashless" doesn't bother or affect me much, in fact the only place I can think of where I need cash is the animal feed merchants that I use. I find that the more cash I have in my wallet, the more I spend ! Cheers.

Personally I feel that if we go cashless everything will be dearer because there'll be no rabbits to make up the wage

Born Hunter 17,910
Seems like there's a multitude of little things to stimulate the economy with the only real tax increase corporation tax. Proof of the pudding will be whether those little things intended to nurture the economy do in fact mean that you can harvest harder without ultimately damaging it. It's all very well us coming out of this comfy, but if this strategy fails all we are doing is handing down our debts. Time is needed to assess the plan and if it's not showing promise by the next election then I'd hope we make it a big point.... but I'm not hopeful, we'll just palm it off to future generations. Also, I wonder if this cultural move towards a cashless society will be the big driver of crypto currencies? IMO the biggest impedance to them taking off as currency rather than commodity is the stability of their exchange value. If all of a sudden there was a large demand for a new anonymous currency then this may well tip the balance more towards cryptos being used as currency and end the nonsense bubbles driven by them being used as commodities/investments stabilising their exchange value. chartpolski 28,007
Isn't the tax rise from 19% to 25% Corporation Tax ? Isnt that what most people wanted, big business paying more tax on their profits ? Wonder how it will affect the likes of Starbucks, Facebook, Amazon, etc. Cheers.

Did the budget include something that was mooted; an on-line purchase charge, supposedly to make the "High Street" more competitive ? Cheers.

It also affects small businesses as well, in fact you can be the sole person in a limited company. Many people working for agencies and such are limited company. Born Hunter 17,910
Just now, chartpolski said: The likes of Starbucks and Facebook will have absolutely no impact on me, but I use Amazon a lot. I'd say it would indirectly. Same as any business. If we impede their business and profitability then that will ripple through the economy. Specific examples might not be worth worrying about but my point really is that the corporation tax increase is a sweeping increase, not just notorious tax avoiders. When a companies profitability drops their investment potential drops which impacts jobs, remuneration, R&D etc. The more 'removed' a tax is from the individual citizen the harder it is for the citizen to see it's impact on them. Everyone wants 'big business' to pay for everything because they think it makes them immune from the economic/fiscal consequences. We all applaud because "f**k FB!", meanwhile John who lives up the street and runs a successful landscaping business now can't afford to take on two apprentices this year and will buy a cheaper model of lease truck for the firms fleet. It sounds trivial but the impact is real and multiplied a million fold. Ultimately it might be the right strategy to stimulate the economy to everyone's benefit. Time will tell. I'm just sceptical that they are playing to the masses rather than doing what is best. Very simply, time will tell.

I knew it affected limited companies, but if you are a "one man limited company" is there a threshold to be reached before paying the top rate ? Or are you still on PAYE ? If it adversely affects one man type operations, it can't be good. Ive never been self employed, so don't know the mechanics of it . Cheers.
