walshie 2,804
We went out for a few hours last night. It was so hot! There wasn't a breath of air and eerily silent. Around 9.30, the first scout around with the thermal showed nothing but we persevered. Our patience was rewarded about an hour later with 3 young foxes sitting looking at us at about 80-100 yards. My glamorous assistant lit one up with the lamp and I flattened the first one with a head shot. When I was sure she wasn't getting up again I turned my attention to her brothers and sisters. I missed the second one as it turned and ran as I pulled the trigger but the third one wasn't so lucky as he had run by then, but had only just made the treeline before stopping for another look. He fell to a boiler room shot. A dog and a vixen. Both in perfect nick and near full grown. They looked quite big for this year's cubs, but not grown enough to be last year's. It went very quiet after that, but Jack did get a chance at one, but failed to notice the large oak tree between him and his target. The shot sounded like someone hitting a six in cricket. We called it a night shortly after, but it was good to get out again. Quote Link to post
FOXHUNTER 5,021
Good result getting a couple. Seems that on these hot still nights not much can be bothered to move. Think I will have a look out tonight on couple of spots but with this heat may see nothing but you never know. 1 Quote Link to post

shovel leaner 7,650
A productive night out Walshie. I’m puzzled by this tree thing though, how does that happen? Surely if there is a large tree between him and the fox , he won’t see the fox ? 3 Quote Link to post

He was aiming between some branches and must have clipped one, but I told him my report would state a 100ft oak tree. Made a proper willow on leather whack though, Quote Link to post
