Sausagedog 7,381
Found an earth this week right under my nose in the heart of my patch! Well my dog did and duly left her scent everywhere! I struggled to wait for them, the wind was all wrong. I know they were in there, pheasant feathers and flies buzzing about etc. I got out at 3:45 this morning, nothing! They've moved on . I walked miles, listening for a betraying cock bird... what's left of them....but nothing . What a plonka. Now I'm tired and grumpy for nothing! I'm going to become a vegan, they might have it right, at least they sleep longer! 2 3 Quote Link to post

I was out 3am yesterday, I’m not keen on getting up at that time either! i was covering a specific area and was there about an hour before I saw the newly moved family about 60yrd away living in the bails... the light was a nightmare to light for the lamp and not light enough for me to get a bead on showed my mate where they were and he went back last night to move them on! one of the many piglets still feel knackered now:( 5 Quote Link to post
Sausagedog 7,381
Sometimes I wonder why I bother! I'm seriously considering to one rifle. It'll be a 22 or a wmr but which one I can't decide. I know I am fed up with the 452. I hate how it balances in my arms. My heart says go get that 9422m but my head says go get the Annie! My eyes are finished for serious rifle shooting. I'm passing on anything over 100yds these days. It was not long ago I would shoot rabbits to 150yd regularly with a 22. Not anymore. My eyes seem dim somehow. I have to stop these days and wait for my eyes to catch up! It's like a rabbit slowly appears from nowhere and I'm only less than 100yds away! Quite fed up about it. Sorry to depress.... 3 Quote Link to post

Alsone 789
Maybe a digital scope or digital scope attachment would help. At least that way you're looking at a screen rather than relying on the brightness of the scope itself. Quote Link to post

And I ain't buying anymore useless gadgets! Now, where'd I left that shotgun.... 1 1 Quote Link to post

The picture in the scope beit video or optical is inches away from your eyes. It sound as if you need to spot without glasses then put on readers to take the actual shot. Alternatively if you don't want to be taking them off, varifocals, albeit they take some getting used to apparently (haven't tried them). Another possibility might be if you can find a scope with a diopter correction ring built in. Never seen one, but I know they do them for binoculars - I have a pair! You can buy cheap readers for around £2. The ones in Aldi aren't bad. Alternatively many stores sell them although they do vary in quality. Try a pair in store, establish the best strength, buy them and try them with your scope. Most you can lose is £2 plus £2's worth of petrol to fetch them! I had a close friend that had one and he was a cracking shot with it! When I had a go of it, it shot lovely. Sat on target so well and came to the shoulder like a shotgun. Happy times, no idea where he is these days, miserable phart. Quote Link to post

No. At this rate I'm going to need a camo wheelbarrow to shoot a bloody fox! I'm going to keep it simple thanks. 1 Quote Link to post
Alsone 789
If I become re-incarnated as a fox, it's your back yard as home for safety! Good luck with the shooting, but just realise the problem with reading vision will only get worse. I'm younger than you and have to resort to 1.5 dioptre readers, - when I go fishing I can't see to thread the line through the rod rings or to tie the hook on without! The only non carry option is going to be a scope with optical correction built in. Haven't seen one though. If not, could I recommend a blunderbus and that you don't have friends around? I can see distance fine but using the computer or reading, especially in poor light is a drag so I use cheap readers. I considered laser treatment and read up about it - at least as far as the eyeball injection and slicing a bit of your eye off before the laser. Quote Link to post

Can't recommend the back yard, that's what the 410 is for! Quote Link to post
