I've seen dogs that look like world beaters at 18mths but have been pts as quitters by the time they were 3. So how you can say you know by 16mths if they are worth breeding from beats me But on the other hand some of the best terriers to enter a hole in the ground haven't started till 2 or 3 and maybe the odd one even later

it all comes down to is whot your stuff is out of how good was there sire /dam??????????????????????????????????????? bread from the best not second best like in other posts iv put up if i cannot work em they go you lot would sell a good lurcher i gave one away the lad is over the moon with him i have seen and done more than most and iv got the stuff that dose the biz have you got hunt kennels that wont pups out of your stuff or are working terriers that you have bred

no offence mate does it really have to be from working stock ......cos my old bitch came from the cat and dog shelter for a small price of just £20 and her daughter i breed of her and its father was just a pet ......and they both do there job 110 % so that just says it all dont it

WELL CHAPS IM FAIRLEY SHOCKED AFTER READING THIS POST..YOU TALK ABOUT BREEDING FROM PROVEN STOCK WHICH I AGREE.THERES SO MUCH RUBBISH ABOUT THESE DAYS..BUT HOW CAN YOU EXPECT TO GET TOP PUPS OUT OF AGING BITCHES IS BEYOND ME????...SURELY 7 IS ABSOLUTLY TO OLD?? IF YOUVE GOT A BITCH THAT IS DOIN WELL WHATS THE PROBLEM WITH GIVING HER A SEASON OFF TO HAVE PUPS???..ATLEAST YOUR GUNNA GIVE EM THE BEST CHANCE POSSIBLE.SURELY YOU WILL KNOW WHAT YOUR DOGS MADE OF BY THE AGE OF TWO,IF YOU GIVE THEM TO MUCH WORK YOU WILL SICKEN A YOUNG DOG ANYWAY HOW EVER ITS BREAD...OUT OF A LITTER OF 6 WELL BREAD APBT'S 1 ENDED UP A CHAMP 2 WHERE KERS AND 3 ENDED UP WITH MUPPITS THAT JUST WANTED THE GENETICS......WHAT EVER YOU DO IS A LOTTERY ANYWAY.....

i do appologise i didnt realise you actually worked your dogs and that HUNT KENNELS want pups out of your two year olds . . i think they may need a couple or three more winters on thier back before some of us lads would consider breeding from them , no matter how good you think the blood is, they still need to prove they can consistantly do the job.

 

well done to you for giving the dog away , if you think i am into selling dogs, pups or adults you are mistaken.

At a push I could understand someone breeding from a young bitch say if it was the last of the line but... buying terriers from the dog kennels is the f*****g worst I've ever heard!!! Who needs to buy pups from tried & tested dogs when we can just pop down to the RSPCA kennels when we need another worker?

just wondering,how you can say that a bitch is obviously untested,if you dont even know her??? many bitchs have seen a world of work at this age !! so if he feels his bitch is worth breeding off how can you say she's not?? how many digs does it take to say she is tested?? i bred my bitch at 2 ,when she had 19 digs under her belt. i felt she was tested and i know her breeding(still digging her mother) so i bred her,and am glad i did as she never reached her 3rd birthday

Ive got an old patterdale there at about 15 years old and i triyed to breed her a few years back but she wouldnt catch

im glad there is someone on hear that works there dogs to hese on hear are fools try and help they know best (dont dig and by dogs from rescue centers) :sick:

i dont think you can put a number on it . when shes done a few seasons regular work and succeeded in places where other dogs have failed , come good in all maner of situations , and she is the best bitch you know of (not just cos its in your kennel as some do), then id start looking for a suitable stud . what would you consider to be a world of work for a two yr old
