Sausagedog 7,381
Finally found some federal 50grn wmr ammo. I have been keen to try them for a while and this afternoon I did just that. I shot five at 60 off hand casually at some lumber and was not hopeful at all! I then plinked five more at close to 300 yards and noticed them landing pretty consistently! Umm I thought, it may be me so shot a few more and did better. I lifted the scope by 20 clicks and went hunting. I got four rabbits. #1@60 #2@60 #3@117 and #4@98. The misses were one at about 100. One at 150 and I did actually shoot one in the head or neck at a whopping 180 but it kicked its way down a hole! Not bragging but demonstrating this round is excellent in my rifle. Neck shot rabbits were not messed up. I think I will get some more of these! 8 1 Quote Link to post
Stavross 18,572
Nice shooting Bernard sausage, it’s nice to know there’s still some things you can legally shoot and eat 2 Quote Link to post
Gav 1,708
I use federal in my mouse gun and get very tight groups, best I've found for mice anyway! 1 Quote Link to post
Deker 3,491
300 is a long way with a WMR. I think I probably still have a handful of 50g rounds but my WMR lives almost exclusively on Hornady 30g V-Max these days. Works well for me! Quote Link to post

Yes the 30grn options are very good but these were equally impressive in a lightly different way. Yes at 300 I was giving some serious hold over. Sausagedog 7,381
Popped out tonight to look for a squirrel. Nice evening it was too. 2 Quote Link to post

I love my WMR, as I always say, it gives me a feeling of confidence! Just the same, I rarely use it for rabbit and I struggle to remember the last time I looked at squirrel with it. I find my .22lr does most things and my HMR is better for slightly longer range than WMR. My WMR's main function is fox and Canada goose! Heavy old round in the WMR a 50g, but we all find ourselves in different circumstances with different needs! Edited April 30, 2019 by Deker 1 Quote Link to post

The wmr does it all for me and there seems to be ammo everywhere for it these days too. Coupled with the fact that my rifle seems to shoot all ammo with satisfactory results too..... I struggle to see the day my .22lr will go, I actually have 2, a BA and a Semi. After the arrival of the HMR the WMR was almost consigned to history overnight, but without doubt the last few years have seen it making a bit of a comeback. The Americans still love the WMR and there is actually quite a lot of choice of WMR ammo, some quite newly developed, it is better quality than years back as well. Don’t let the .22 go SD, the versatility of the LR is always useful. 1 Quote Link to post

Sorry to take this off topic, I've not used Longs for years, and I know many moons back we all used solid rather than HP, but how do you get on with these? Low power, round nose and a rainbow arc!? Oh yes, do they cycle ok from magazine? Cheers Quote Link to post

As for cycling, if I only load 4 into a 10 shot mag, they cycle ok. Any more and they slip forward and get stuck in the mag. Not accurate enough to shoot further with the cci’s, but rws Z Lang shoot well out to fifty yards and beyond, but they’re nearly 50 ft lb, whereas the cci’s are more like 30 ft lb. They have a place for me, I know that some rifles won’t shoot them well at all. Quote Link to post
