lucky 578
we were out again last night, started off a bit quiet, then Tyke caught a big dog fox which gave him plenty until he got a good throat hold, are luck had changed or so we thought, then we spotted a nice herd of fallow in a big stubble so off we went flat out accross the field (just to have a look of course  ) but they were still in the next field, so we found the entrance to it and in we went about 10 yard into the field the subaru stopped dead, it was bogged to the axels (the only soft spot in the area and we were in it ) any way to cut a long story short we did'nt get the car out for another 4 hours of digging, jacking and placing wood under all four wheels, eventually we had built a mini bridge, but atleast we were out totally drenched and covered from head to toe in mud.it was home time Tyke with his fox, Quote Link to post

Guest thunderbelly
Subaru---in a field you need a 4x4 for that kind of thing, get a tow strap and a winch if you're going to go off road in a family wagon again. Quote Link to post
lucky 578
Subaru---in a field you need a 4x4 for that kind of thing, get a tow strap and a winch if you're going to go off road in a family wagon again. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i've tried most of the 4x4 motors, and to be honest they don't come near the subaru for the style of lamping i do, the motor has to be very quick and able to turn at speed without rolling etc, it has to have plenty of room and be easy to get the dog straight out, every farmer/keeper in the country has landrovers, hi lux's etc so having a motor that can leave them for dead is a big plus aswell. the "family wagons" have served we well over the years so i won't be changing them for anything Quote Link to post

Guest Nightwalker
Well two nights ago I was having a good night lamping rabbits in a paddock on the edge of a big wood with the deerhound x pup, but then swinging the lamp around I caught a reflection where one shouldnt be, I realised someone was driving down the main ride in the wood with lights out, I headed for the hedge, on came his lights, I dumped 11 good rabbits and started running like f*** for cover and got there 20 yards ahead of the landy. I was glad he didnt have a subaru! I've got one, they wont go everywhere a landy will, but they are very quick across reasonable ground. That the third time I've been run off that place in the last couple of years - two near misses, one easy getaway, but I'm going back next week feckem! I'm going to have a good night!
