Moose Rump Joint

Recommended Posts

the neighbors invited my wife and i round to a bbq for their nephew coming over from Australia for Xmas, they laid on a lovely spread, sausage rolls, cheese and spinach rolls, Chinook salmon with brown sugar soy sauce and garlic, big prawns, home made salmon pate and crackers, moose pepperoni, and a big moose rump joint, plus the norm....bread rolls potatoes etc.....

the moose was hunted/shot/jointed by the neighbors brother, he also made the moose pepperoni and caught the salmon, we had never tasted moose meat before so we were itching to try it....it had been on the rotisserie for 3-4 hours, it could have done with a few more hours.....but people where having trouble waiting for it......lol...well....it was worth the wait, it was the best sweetest piece of meat you could ever have tasted, it tasted like a very sweet beef....it was one big joint but as it was so rare in the center it was put back on to cook a little bit more....we had a brilliant evening with great company and really decent food.....

fook me i bet a moose carcass would take some bloody handling to dress out. looks some decent enough snapping.

I spoke to a guy who has shot a couple on his own, carries a small block and tackle pulley system to help if they are down in trees as they are humungous.

i have seen programs here when three people clean a big moose up, if there's trees around they use ropes to haul it on it's back, one guy struggled getting to his feet with a hind leg on his back, shows you how big these animals are, quad and trailor your best bet, in Alaska I've seen them use horses to carry the moose meat back, Merry Xmas bud
