Gravy 18
Have you had any dealings with these? Had a telephone enquiry about culling a few Canadian geese that are harassing a nesting pair of swans, apparently, the swans are currently spending too much time trying to chase the geese away rather than be on the nest!! The site is private land and away from public Been looking at general license on BASC website to see if their numbers can be reduced? it mentions landowners can apply for the license - does that mean they can delegate the work to me? Would appear Canadian geese can be controlled, and at any time of season including nest/egg disturbance. No nesting geese WILL CHECK WITH BASC first, to ensure I remain lawful but would .22 air rifle head shot at close range be ok? Do not to disturb the swans in any way? Quote Link to post
cragman 2,841
I control geese throughout the year but more so now when they're breeding. This is done because of the threat to public health and other wildlife that the geese present. Also damage to crops on farms that I have permission on. I prick eggs as a first deterrent and will remove birds if they are aggressive or persistent. As far as shooting goes, I use shotgun, centrefire or rimfire. Discretion and safety is needed in public places so get in early to do any control. 1 Quote Link to post
Torquemada 288
Refer to GL-04 General Licence. Personally, I wouldn't try that with a 12ft/lbs air rifle. 2 Quote Link to post

Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Geese are easily killed with an air gun ,shot to the head at the appropriate range . 1 Quote Link to post
