A Nice Warm Morning Ferreting.

Me and my ferreting buddy got to our ground a bit early today, still dark, so we had a little wonder to the bottom of a horse field that the farmer said he had seen plenty of rabbits.

 

We only saw 2 rabbits coming out from a shoots cover crop and into a warren in some bushes, so we netted up some obvious holes that wasnt to far under the bushes.

It was quite hard to work out where the warren started and finished and another one started so we ended up netting about 50 yards of hedgerow. Plus putting out 50 yards of long nets on the opposite side of the hedge.

 

 

In goes the ferret and out comes the flask for a nice strong sweet coffee.

 

The ferret seems to be on the scent of rabbit straight away, in and out of holes, then bolts one into the purse net, so one in the bag, no sooner had i recovered the hole another one bolts but hole jumps straight back into the warren. So i managed to get under the hedge and net that hole, as im greeted by my ferret almost face to face.

 

A few minutes pass and she bolts one again into the purse net, as i collect it i can hear thumping so knowing theres another one down there i net the hole again, seeing the ferret coming out at the top of the warren another one bolts this time at the opposite side of the hedge into the long net.

 

Thinking we should move up the hedgerow abit, we call out the ferret and put her in the last hole right under a old tree that has been dug out around the base as i put her down her tail starts waggling, ive only seen her do this when my dog suprises her, (what does it mean?).

 

 

She goes in and has a walk around for about 10 minutes before bolting 2 nearly at the same time one hits the purse net but the other gets away.

 

After a coffee and rollup, she hasnt bolted anymore so we pack up and move on to another small warren right on the edge of a stream,

 

We managed to purse net all 12 holes and had 2 more almost as soon as she went in.

 

So we had six this morning and really nice warm morning for it too.

nice one mate looks like a productive morning and some good work from your ferrets.doing that little bit extra effort made for a great day out by the looks of it and yes can't argue Joks ferret boxes are mint
