Non Ped Or Kc

Recommended Posts

Have access to a non ped racing champion and a kc registered whippet, which would you use at stud? My bitch is kc coursing bred whippet x non ped whippet.

You haven't said what your end game is ?

Obviously,..a specialist bred, Non-Ped will be the master on the track....in fact, nothing can touch these superlative speedsters over their prefered distance. I've had plenty,.they are fabulous , unique critters and if a hare rises in front of them,...they will usualy spin it over in double quick time..

But,.for roustabout lurcher work,....I would now go for the Pedigree, KC style, 'working whippet'..

They don't have, the pleasing Greyhound look of the old style Rag Dogs,..or the muscular development of the early Staffordshire Bull terrier inclusion,..but, the broad chested type of 'working whippet' seems to throw a better foot and a more sturdy bone conformation.... Never thought I would think like this..... :hmm:

I agree with this 100%, my late father raced non per for many years with good success, he had many foot injury's with them. They can certainly knock rabbits over but the majority wouln't last over rough ground. I would use the kc type, more robust dog and one that has been worked hard, shown good drive, nose as well. i could have uses my cousins racing champ non ped, bred of racing champs all through the line over my beddy whippet but instead i went for a robust mike brown type and the pups i know of have all done the job. With your bitch being half non ped anyway that's going to make them 3/4 non ped, The non peds can be very firery and not all will get banged up but i personaly would go with the kc working type. ATB.

I had 3 kc ped racing whippets one 30 lb that got to 11 out of 12 finals but he wouldn't live with a non ped I put him against the no peds at old Hall he got beat every time

Totally at a Fordingbridge they used to give a pedigree a 7 yard allowance against a non ped of the same weight

A few years ago a mate had a 26" multi cross lurcher containing greyhound, saluki, bull, deerhound, collie, No whippet. He used my ped whippet dog on her and the pups were fantasic. The genes really knitted well together. Which proves the saying of going back to something clean every few generations. The impact the whippet made on these pups was imense
