Starting Wasp Nests

I'm thinking of adding wasp nests to my line of work

Do I need any paperwork or courses etc?

No i dont think you need anything specific mate, im not sure what you do at the moment or what certs you already have but some of the pesticides youll use like ficam and the like are nasty so it would make sense to do a course before the season starts in the spring just so you know what your dealing with.

Currently I only do moles but I think I want to do wasps and mice etc

Didn't know wether the pesticides used required a licence

All professional insecticides can not be purchased off a supplier unless proof of training can be shown .

 

As always there are Internet sellers that you can purchase off. As Trapa points out Ficam and the likes are nasty and if missed really bad for the environment.

 

I think companies run wasp courses , get on 1 of them

I too started with just moles , yes you would definately need some training , especially if you're moving into rodent control . Then at the end off the day it's only a piece of paper , but we all started somewhere.

You should also have insurance sorted out! It's a bit different going into a loft or up a ladder with a few thousand pissed off wasps, not easy to keep your cool and do the job right and not end up putting a foot through the roof or stay on the ladder if it goes tits up! Plus you may end up treating a nest and someone gets stung that's allergic to wasps (possible compo) or you yourself may be allergic to them!

 

Do a course at the very least, they ain't a critter to play with that's for sure. Easy to do wasps if you do it properly and safely! Panic and you are in trouble lol
