si brown 8,486
went back to the rat farm tonight... was there 3 hours and never put me gun down or touched anything!! its rank but that = a good nights sport i spent the first hour on me tod just stoping in one area, it was crawling with them!! then my mate turned up so we had a good mooch about for a couple of hours not the best photos but the weather wasn't the best... but you'll see why I'm not picking them up and the farmers not bothered!! there cannibalising little b@stards, all the ones between the bales from last week have all gone and any left soon disappeared tonight all the rats are shot outside, theres so much livestock inside that i wouldn't consider going in the barns! not to sure about the final count but i used a big handful of pellets and had to get some more out! there were 6 more under the tanks that i could see.... the farmers gonna get a shock tomorrow in the daylight!! ughh atb si ps... how did u get on tonight jon?! 5 Quote Link to post

Jonjon79 13,358
..... I've just got in. We started at about 10:30 and, feck me that was hard work. The 10 pig pens were indeed all empty and, as I suspected, no pigs = no feed = no rats. We didn't see any at all along that side. Our only opportunities were at the bottom end - a 10mtr wide empty goose pen and a 10mtr wide pig pen with a 1mtr wide track in between. The whole area was a wet muddy quagmire. There is a shed at the bottom that had a few calfs in. This is where the feed is now so, this was the only place we found rats. However, because of all the equipment and fences and gates, it was difficult to get a shot - everything was close quarters. I spent the night on x3 mag with my parallax between 10 & 20yrds. The busiest place by far was inside the cow shed but, it was always a dodgy shot. To get the rats in focus, I would have had to shoot through a metal gate at an angle. There was just too much of a chance of a ricochet hitting one of the calfs. With a little patience, we got 6 rats outside and 1 inside the cow shed but, they made us work for it. They seemed to know to not stay still for long tonight. We both had a pinball rat that we couldn't find. You know the sort - the pellet hits and it looks like it's been hit with 1000 volts when it pings about all over the place. ...... The end result - 7 confirmed dead rats 3 Quote Link to post

It was wet and muddy down there last night but, thanfully the rain held off for us. I've kinda got my spots sussed now - there's one 5ft high shed with a clean flat roof - that's THE only place I put my rifle down on this permission Quote Link to post

I might revert back to the S10 for this one. Fair play to you for sticking it out in that weather though mate Atb 1 Quote Link to post

I was talking to an old pal in Sheffield who does some ratting and he bought one on my suggestion and thinks it is nothing short of a game changer when it comes to ratting, standing or sitting. Perhaps worth a look. https://www.bushwear.co.uk/primos-trigger-stick-gen-2-deluxe-tripod-tall-316957.html Phil Quote Link to post

I struggle with sitting and waiting so, for stalking, I find a stick brilliant for taking the shot. Quote Link to post
