MIK 4,763
The North Sea is fuked due to the mentality of the workforce lazy and bone idle especially on the production and construction side wanting as much money to do as little as possible
Nik_B 3,791
the down turn effects everyone right from the big companys to the hookers on the street as there is not the money going about ...I am in Thailand at the moment running a base out here I am not going to say what my daily bonus is but I am out here basically working for just my salary its just what you have to do to keep your job lets just say I am going to lose out on over $25k for this hitch . Been in the industry over 20 years and worked in over 30 countries and I have never seen it as bad as this ....a lot of lads will never come back to the industry as they have set up little business's there will be a load of experience lost and a lot of lads jumping up the ladder before their time so expect a lot of fuk ups ...which will keep me busy as my job is to fix fuk ups In my area its really bad I know plenty of lads that have not worked for near 2 years and have lost their houses cars the lot .... What do you do and what are you describing as a hitch, I take it it's not a month? Are you doing very long hitches or something? My title is Senior Thru-Tubing Field Engineer Supervisor.Intervention Technology Center Singapore ..or Fishing Hand a hitch can be anything from a couple of days to 8 weeks ...this current hitch is 5 weeks ....everyone can speculate how they want when this is going to end or how its going to turn out but nobody really knows ....but one thing I can see happening is when it is all over and you are good at your job and have plenty of experience you will be able to pick and choose your job ...its just riding out the storm until they days come I agree and I think the worst is over now. It will be another year maybe longer but there is going to be a massive shortage of experienced personnel......we can look forward to a good few accidents as well thanks to this. There has been no hiring, layoffs and people leaving the workforce and getting different jobs or retiring, the kids coming out of Uni with oilfield degrees will have gone elsewhere.....what a mess. Nice job, I was always fascinated by fishing...you will be very busy when get get millions of inexperienced people who don't know how to torque up drill pipe, tools and motors properly
MIK 4,763
There is definitely a confidence back as I am hearing rigs are starting to move but I agree it's a year away before things start seriously picking up ...all the companies have there budgets planned for the first and second quarters of 2017 ....it just needs crude to hit the $60 mark and most countries can work away at that ....like I say I'm out here running this base for nothing and have been balls to wall getting 3 jobs out on my own this week ....it's a f****d up contract we just supply tools with no fishing hand ...the co men are running the show so it's fuk up after fuk up ....just got a set of jars and a motor back today totally fuked so will have to strip them next week and they will be charged cost price for them so that's few hundred thousand dollars a piece ....they think they are saving money with not having a fishing hand but we are only $ 2500 a day so it's been false economy' for the oil company . Fishing looks the easiest job in the world when it's going good but it's a very lonely job when it's all going tits up but it pays the bills and it's let me travel the world from Siberia to Oz and a lot of places in between What do you do Nik?
