archiekale 427
nice sunny day forcast so we decided to do the dreaded blackthorn hedge . this is a very bad spot very thick hedge so you cant shoot it . when you net it they just snag (nightmare for ferreting ) met Ian at 9 ish and netted what we could the hedge is about 100 yards long and 20 yards wide just thick black thorn the first set of holes produced 2 both nets snagged one escape entered another warren with the little lurcher in hot pursuit netted up and bolted into a easy net the ferret was back down and within minutes located a second rabbit not wanting to bolt ( this would have been the one the lurcher chased ) a easy 1 foot dig 2 in the bag moved lower down to a 15 holer still thick with cover managed 2 more . i thought this hedge would produce a few more than 4 but i have ferreted this area a few times .decided to go look under the big oak tree this warren is deep and they normally just hole hop most of the holes were overgrown with rubbish not looking good .ferret entered and a bolt straight away accounted for with the shotgun the lurcher was locked away in the pick-up as to avoid any mishaps 2 more bolted on Iians side of the hedge one into a net the other to the gun 7 in the bag .moved down to a long hedge me les and ian did in early October (good result )and decided to use the long net to block there escape to the blackthorn hedge no shooting as pick ups in way previously the rabbits just hole hoped and ran the ferrets ragged not this time entered both ferrets and accounted for 3 in the long net 10 so far carried on down the hedge accounting for another 4 14 in total this was a hard day with the blackthorn hedge been a nightmare all the rabbits were clean with no fleas kidneys coverd in fat Edited November 11, 2016 by archiekale 2 Quote Link to post
